GANGTOK, 31 Oct: Eklavya Model Residential School, Gangyap in West Sikkim has become the Regional Champions for the fourth consecutive time winning the Under 19 CBSE Cluster-I [North East Region] Basketball Championship. This win also gives the girls from EMRS-Gangyap entry in to the Under-19 CBSE Nationals scheduled to be held at Agra from the 21 to 26 December later this year.
EMRS’s Diki Doma Bhutia was adjudged the ‘Most Valuable Player’ trophy and the Highest Scorer trophy was also lifted by Tashi Tshering Sherpa of EMRS with 40 points in her three games.
EMRS beat Indus Academy in their opening game of the championship. Being the defending champions, EMRS was given a direct berth in the quarter finals as the other teams battled it out on the first day. The final score read 57-06.
In the semi final EMRS faced a good and strong team from St. Francis, Narangi. However, EMRS brushed them aside with ease winning the shortened game 61-10. They clashed with the home team Kaziranga English Academy, Guwahati in the finals which they demolished with poise and grace to win 64-14.
The team has thanked the sponsors Ladakhi Constructions, Casino Majhong and Hissey Lachungpa [Rajya Sabha MP] for their generous support.
