SKM’s parivartan rally concludes

GANGTOK, 31 Jan: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha’s Parivartan Rally concluded today after covering all four districts of the state. The rally had started on 26 January.
An SKM press release informs that the rally moved from Namchi and then to Mamring under Namthang-Rateypani constituency and officially concluded at Rangpo today. The rally was welcomed by people at different places along the route, the release adds.
At Rangpo, the party’s secretary general, MK Subba, who led the rally, thanked the participating youth and announced that an even larger rally will be organised in the future.
At Poklok-Kamrang constituency, which is the Chief Minister’s constituency, the people of the area gave a grand welcome to the motorcade and shouted in favor of change in the area, the release claims.
The release further claims that the people of the area placed various grievances and complaints against the present government.

SKM parivartan rally reaches Jorethang

GANGTOK, 30 Jan: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha’s car rally reached Jorethang today after completing its fifth day on tour. The rally had begun on Republic Day from the SKM party headquarters at Convoy Ground.
An SKM release informs that the ‘Parivartan Rally’ started from Kamling crossing Wok, Legship and halted at Tashiding last night. Today the rally toured through Yoksum, Khechopalri, Darap, Pelling, Sakyong, Gyalshing, Tikjuk, Sombaria, Soreng, Daramdin and has reached Jorethang.
Almost 500 vehicles including two wheelers reached Jorethang, where they were given a traditional welcome with the offering of dahi [curd] to youth leader MK Subba, the release informs. The rally received good response in West district, it is added.
The last day of the rally will cover Soreng-Chakung, Zoom-Salghari in West district and Poklok Kamrang and Namthang Salghari in South district, the release informs.

SKM motorcade rolls through West Sikkim

GANGTOK, 29 Jan: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha’s ‘parivartan rally’ has now reached the West district after touring South Sikkim. The rally entered the West district from Kamling and then travelled through Wok, Legship, Tashiding, Yuksom, Kechopalri, Gyalshing and Pelling finally halting at Dentam.
An SKM press release informs that in the past four days of the rally, the number of vehicles and bikes has been increasing every day and on the fourth day today there were more than 400 cars and almost a hundred motorcycles.
This morning the rally started from Sadam and the motorcade received a grand welcome from locals while entering Namchi-Singhithang constituency, the release states. The rally then moved from Sadam to Melli Gumpa, Melli, Rong-Bul, Singhithang, Poklok-Kamrang and received a warm welcome at Namchi, it adds. On Thursday, the rally will proceed to Soreng, Sombaria and Jorethang.

SKM rally reaches South district

GANGTOK, 28 Jan: The ‘Parivartan Rally’ of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha [SKM] party reached South Sikkim today. The rally after halting in Dzongu in North Sikkim on Monday entered the South district from Yangyang.
An SKM press release informs that the rally received a grand welcome and more vehicles have joined the rally increasing the number of vehicles in the rally to more than 300 today. It is informed that the rally entering from Yangyang travelled through Rabongla, Damthang, Temi-Tarku and Namthang before halting at Sadam today.
The release informs that the rally led by the party general secretary, MK Subba reached Dzongu last evening where locals met the party leaders and workers and expressed their grievances. The people accused the state government of being biased against some sections and stated that developmental activities were just for namesake, the release claims.
The North district public also placed various grievances and problems, it is added.

SKM car rallies to begin Republic Day

GANGTOK, 25 Jan: On the eve of the 65th Republic Day, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha [SKM] leader, PS Tamang [Golay], today accused the state government of going against the very ethos of democratic, republic structure.
An SKM release informs that Mr. Tamang visited Melli in South Sikkim and interacted with the people and wished them on the eve of Republic Day. He urged the people of Sikkim to come forward for the development of the state and the country as a whole.
SKM party will begin its car rallies on Republic Day throughout the State led by the party’s secretary general MK Subba, the release informs.
During his visit, the public of Melli alleged that the area has been suffering from drinking water supply problem which has not been addressed by the state government for the past 20 years.
On the same Mr Tamang said that due the lack of proper government policy to address the drinking water supply problem, the South district which is a drought prone region is facing lots of problems. He accused the ruling party of neglecting Melli during its 20-year rule in the state.
He further informed the gathering about SKM’s party policy, programme and vision during his visit to Melli constituency, the release adds.

SKM’s student front rally protests ‘druggist’ tag

GANGTOK, 15 Dec: Sikkim Krantikari Vidyarthi Morcha, the students’ wing of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha, took out a rally here on Saturday. SKM supporters carrying banners and placards, shouted slogans against the tagging of the party youth as ‘druggists’ and ‘rowdies’ by the Chief Minister and the Sikkim Democratic Front as they walked along the National Highway 31A from the SKM head-office to Zero Point.
The rally was participated in by a large number of youth from different parts of the state along with SKM leaders and workers.
Speaking to media persons, the SKVM chief co-ordinator, Dr. Mechung Bhutia, said that the Chief Minister has been constantly referring to the SKM party youth as “druggists and rowdies” and added that such language by a person occupying a constitutional post was totally unacceptable.
“Through this rally, on behalf of the youth of Sikkim, the student’s wing demands an apology from the CM failing which we will take the matter to the courts,” he said.
The student’s wing chief convener, Karma Tashi Bhutia, in turn alleged that the Chief Minister was trying to misinform the public by calling the youth and students supporting SKM “rowdies and druggists”. Condemning the CM’s comments, he reiterated the demand for an apology from the CM to all the youth and students of the state.
Apart from this, the rally also raised slogans against the high suicide rate in the state, drug addiction and protection of Article 371 F. The rally concluded at Zero Point after some SKM leaders addressed the gathering.
