SDF Cheli Sachetna programme held in South Sikkim

NAMCHI, 30 Jan: Sikkim Democratic Front party (SDF) held a constituency level Cheli Sachetna cum picnic for Namchi-Singithang constituency today here at Ngadak Gompa premises. The programme was organised by SDF South District Cheli Morcha, which was attended area MLA Namchi-Singithang Constituency Binod Rai as the chief guest.
Addressing the occasion MLA Binod Rai said that the SDF government in Sikkim has brought all round development in Sikkim and SDF is a pro-poor party which has its set of ideologies, policies and programmes for the people of Sikkim. “It is the people’s responsibility to strengthen the efforts of our leader to give continuity to his mission and vision for Sikkim”, he said.
He alleged that the opposition has no ideology and spreading fear and terror, burning vehicles and assaulting people is their programme and objective. Further accusing the opposition of misleading the youth of the state he urged everyone to fight for their rights which he stated only SDF can ensure.
South District Cheli Convener, Tirtha Subba in her address said that such a function is being organized in order to make the chelis aware of the present government’s work for women’s empowerment in Sikkim and also to inform them about party policies and programmes. She said that women of this state must feel proud to work for this party and take individual responsibility to spread awareness about the works and policies of our party at the grass root level.
On behalf of the Cheli Morcha she also condemned the recent attack on the staff of English daily Sikkim Express and Nepali daily Himali Bela and demanded strict action against the accused person. Ms Subba further denied that the accused belongs to SDF party. SDF party can never encourage the youth to indulge in such violence, she stated and stressed on the need to find out the truth behind the incident in order to dispel allegations being leveled by the opposition.
Secretary Organization, Basant Rai who recently quit SKM and joined SDF in his address said that based on his experience with SKM he can say that the party is only misleading people for their selfish interests.
The programme was also addressed by general secretary in-charge, RN Rai while the programme was also attended by Chairman Labor Welfare, Passang Rinzing Sherpa, Advisor Ecclesiastical Affairs Department, Lakpa Ghising, Secretary Organization Satish Chandra Rai, Vice Chairman NMC, NH Ansari, Zilla and Ward Panchayats along with other party members and supporters from Namchi and surrounding areas.
A colorful cultural programme was also organized during this awareness meeting cum picnic.

SDF Cheli Sachetna programme held in South Sikkim

NAMCHI, 28 Jan: Sikkim Democratic Front [SDF] held a constituency level Cheli Sachetna programme of Poklok-Kamrang constituency under South Sikkim yesterday at Samatar Ward under Poklok-Denchung Gram Panchayat Unit.
Organised by SDF South District Cheli Morcha, the programme was attended by SDF South District In-charge, GM Gurung as the chief guest while Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, KN Rai was present as the special guest. Also present were Chairman Labor Welfare, Passang R Sherpa, Advisor Ecclesiastical Affairs Department, Lakpa Ghising along with other party members and supporters from Namchi and surrounding areas.
KN Rai in his address to the gathering highlighted the development that has taken place in many aspects under the SDF government and said that people should be able to assess them. He urged the youth and chelis to work sincerely for the development of the state and advised the various committees working at the ward level and constituency level to reach out to every house.
GM Gurung in his address said that today's meeting is meant for both chelis and youth. Everyone should fight for their right and SDF is the only party which will ensure this, he added. He further said that 2014 should be the year for women’s empowerment in every aspect and the year should be led by women.  Stating that SDF’s mission is 'pavitra kranti', Mr Gurung said that SKM cannot be termed as 'opposition' since all it does is point fingers.  He also stated that more pro-people announcements will be made soon.
The gathering was also addressed by Basant Rai who recently quit SKM and joined SDF. He shared his experiences with SKM in brief. Earlier, the programme started with the address of publicity secretary SDF Cheli Morcha South, Laxmi Gurung who highlighted the aims and objectives of the meeting.

SDF chelis condemn attack on South district working committee secretary

GANGTOK, 24 Jan: Sikkim Democratic Front’s women’s front, the Cheli Morcha, has condemned the assault on the party’s South District working committee secretary, Beenu Tamang, by alleged SKM party workers yesterday.
Ms. Tamang was reportedly attacked at a wedding in Namthang-Palitam Thursday evening by people she has identified as SKM party workers.
SDF’s Cheli Morcha secretary Phurmit Lepcha has condemned the incident and held it up as further evidence of SKM’s ideology of violence and believes that SKM reverts to violence so often because it is frustrated by the lack of any issues to go to the people with.
She goes on to reiterate that SDF was a disciplined party which held the safety and security of the lay Sikkimese on highest priority and towards that end, has displayed restraint even in the face of open provocation by SKM. This resolve and respect peace should not be mistaken for weakness, she stresses.

SDF Cheli Morcha begins GPU level meetings in South

NAMCHI, 18 Nov: The Cheli Morcha of the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front for Poklok Kamrang constituency in South Sikkim started its Gram Panchayat Unit level meetings today at Poklok Nandugaon GPU.
The meeting was held in preparation for the 2014 assembly polls. The aim of the meeting is to interact with the women party workers of the constituency and to prepare them for the upcoming election.
Today’s meeting was chaired by Man Rani Rai, a senior party member of the village and was also attended by the Cheli convenor Poklok Kamrang, Sanju Rai, vice president South District Cheli Morcha, Soma Dolma Tamang, South District Cheli Morcha publicity secretary Laxmi Gurung, active party member South, Kala Subba, Zilla and ward panchayat members along with around 400 women of the GPU.
Discussing the future action plan, the meeting decided to start door-to-door visits in the constituency with the main aim of making the people aware of the party policies and also to inform them about the various developments brought by the SDF government in the constituency and state as a whole. They also decided to form an active unit of Chelis to oversee party activities in the constituency.
Later, an open discussion was also held. Party supporters placed suggestions and expressed their satisfaction with the development of the GPU under the SDF. They also promised their support to the SDF party in the upcoming polls.

SDF’s Cheli Morcha convenes coordination meetings for Lachen-Mangan and Dzongu constituencies

MANGAN, 07 May: Constituency level coordination meeting of SDF’s women’s wing, the Cheli Morcha, were convened for Lachen-Mangan and Dzongu constituencies on 06 and 07 May respectively.
ForLachen-Mangan, the meeting was held at Naga and began with a welcome address by Ashokmit Lepcha (vice convener, Cheli Morcha), followed by Upadhakshya, NT Lepcha, speaking on the SDF Government’s consistent efforts to sustain and nurture Lepcha culture and traditions.
The Cheli Morcha general secretary, Manita Mangar, in turn detailed the initiatives of the SDF Government towards women’s empowerment and calling on the Cheli Morcha members to coordinate efforts with their area MLA to spread wider awareness on the party’s ideology, commitment and delivery on women’s issues.
The North Zilla Adhakshya, Anguli Lepcha, invited members to undertake a detailed analysis of the SDF Government’s achievements of the past 19 years, compare it against the situation of the past and the claims of the party’s detractors to understand what would be at stake if misinformation was allowed to spread unchallenged.
Similarly, former MLA, Ringzing Ongmu, member State Planning Commission, underlined the role of the Cheli Morcha and its responsibilities towards the party.
Former Speaker, Kalawati Subba, also a member of the State Planning Commission now, then shared the party’s growth since it was launched to its elevation to government in Sikkim and its various policy initiatives which have consistently been pro-poor and pro-women.
The function winded up with vote of thanks being delivered by Songmit Lepcha, zilla member. Also present for the meeting were Khamsoong Lepcha, North District president SDF, former Upadhakshya  Pintso Doma Bhutia, panchayat and zilla members and the women from Lachen-Mangan.
The team then convened a similar meeting for the Cheli Morcha or Dzongu constituencyat Namprikdang Ground yesterday chaired by Ms. Kalawati Subba and also attended by the area MLA Sonam Gyatso Lepcha, apart from the party leaders who attended the Naga meet.
This meeting started with a welcome address by Dawden Lepcha, Cheli Convenor, Dzongu constituency.
During the meeting, the names of convenors and vice convenors of the Cheli Morcha for ward level and GPU level cells were announced by Khimoo Lepcha, North District convenor of the SDF Cheli Morcha.

Cheli Morcha thanks all involved at the 16th Tumin Lingzey relief camps

GANGTOK, 01 Nov: Seeking to provide comfort to the earthquake victims of 16th Tumin Lingzey, relief camps were set up in an initiative taken by the SDF Cheli Morcha, vice convener, Poonam Chamling. The camps which are being run since 20 Oct are providing accommodation to 52 affected families at present, informs a press release.

SDF Chelis discuss earthquake relief plans at Upper Tarpin

GANGTOK, 17 Oct: A meeting of SDF party’ women’s wing, the Cheli Morcha, of Upper Tarpin was convened a meeting on 15 Oct chaired by Shova Pradhan, informs a press release issued by the SDF general secretary [publicity], TN Sharma.
