Special Handloom Expo gets underway at Kanchanjunga Shopping Complex

GANGTOK, 24 Nov [IPR]: The National Level Special Handloom Expo’ 2013 was inaugurated today by the area MLA, Dorjee Namgyal Bhutia, at the roof top of Kanchanjunga Shopping Plaza for the period of twenty days. He was accompanied by the Secretary Commerce and Industries, PT Euthenpa, Director, Directorate of Handicraft and Handloom, Ganga D. Pradhan and other officers and staff of the Directorate.
The Expo has been organized by Sikkim Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd and sponsored by Office of the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
During the function the chief guest, Mr. Dorjee visited all the displayed stalls from all around the country. A large contingent of weavers, self help groups and cooperative societies from Manipur, Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Sikkim are participating in the expo.
The objective of the expo is to provide a marketing platform and is expected to generate awareness and also to create employment opportunities in the handloom weaving sector. The live demonstration and theme pavilion highlighting the exquisite handloom products from all over the country are highlights of the event. The expo will continue till 10 December 2013.

Special Handloom Expo begins in Gangtok

GANGTOK, 21 Oct [IPR]: Nim Yethenpa, Development Commissioner cum Secretary DPER & NEC Affairs, inaugurated a Special Handloom Expo 2013 today. The expo, organised by the Sikkim Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd (SHHDC) at its Zero Point campus is sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner Handloom, Ministry of Textiles.
The Development Commissioner visited all the stalls put up by weavers, Self Help Groups and Cooperative Societies from Manipur, Kolkata, Guwahati, Cooch Behar, Uttar Pradesh and all four districts of Sikkim.
The Expo includes a live craft demonstration display, a theme pavilion display of different handloom products including integrated Handloom Development Scheme products from different parts of Sikkim.
The Development Commissioner also interacted with the participants and evinced keen interest and expressed happiness with the various activities.
The Special Handloom Expo 2013 is an annual event of the Sikkim Handloom and Handicraft Corporation, organised with the concept of providing a platform to weavers, artisans, sellers and buyers, to converge and create awareness in the handloom sector as an employment and income generating industry. The Expo will continue till 02 November 2013.
The inaugural function was also attended by LP Barfungpa, Special Secretary cum Director Commerce and Industries, and Ganga Pradhan, Director SHHDC along with the officers and staff of the Directorate.

National Handloom Expo begins at DHH


GANGTOK, 22 Sept [IPR]: Chief Secretary, R Ongmu formally inaugurated the National Handloom Expo 2013 at the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handlooms, Zero Point, Gangtok on Saturday. The National Handloom Expo 2013 is being organized by the Sikkim Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd and has been sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handloom) Ministry of Textiles.
A total of 45 stalls have been allotted to weavers and Self Help Groups from all over the country and State. The National Handloom Expo provides a platform to weavers to promote their products and also to generate awareness of the handloom industry and create markets for their products.
A live crafts demonstration by local artisans and exhibits by empanelled designers like Chimi Ongmu Bhutia, Sudeep Tamang and Sangay Palden Bhutia have added more appeal and flavor to this exhibition. The National Handloom expo provides a good buyers-seller marketing platform.
