Minor raped

GANGTOK, 17 May: A 35 year old resident of Berbing, Ranka, was taken into custody yesterday on charges of having raped a 3 year old minor at a building construction site about a week ago. The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint filed by the mother of the victim. The Sadar police have placed the accused under arrest and booked him on charges under section 376 [punishment for rape] of the Indian penal Code read with section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

Girl accuses father of rape

GANGTOK, 23 Jan: A middle aged man has been arrested by the Namchi police on charges of raping his 14-year-old daughter. The accused was arrested by the police on 22 January after his daughter lodged a complaint with the police.
The accused allegedly raped his daughter on 20 January and had again molested her on the night of 21 January. The mother and elder sister of the victim were not present and had gone to Jorethang.
The police forwarded both, the accused and the victim, for medical examination at the Namchi hospital; clothes and other items have been seized for forensic examination as well.

All four accused of raping minor near Pakyong taken into custody

GANGTOK, 02 Jan: All four accused in the rape of a 14-year-old minor at Bharlang near Pakyong in East Sikkim on 28 December are now under custody, confirmed Pakyong Police Station PI Mahindra Subba.
After the immediate arrest of the two accused in the crime, 26-year-old Purney Kami and 29-year-old Nar Bahadur Kami on 29 December, Police apprehended the 14-year-old juvenile involved in the crime early on the morning of 31 December from Takchang basti while another absconding, Man Bahadur Kami, 24, was apprehended by Pakyong police from his residence at Kit Golai, Pacheykhani near Pakyong at 4 PM the same day.
“Police had already deployed sources and plainclothes men to make quick arrests of all the accused. Police had information about the residence of Man Bahadur and had gone there before the arrest was made and spoken to the family members including his wife regarding the grievousness of the crime. When the accused returned home on 31 December, the family members informed the police and the police made the arrest immediately,” stated the PI.
It is informed that, Man Bahadur Kami is said to have stated that he had gone to Siliguri to find the 14-year-old juvenile [allegedly involved in the crime] to clear his name in the incident and once he returned home, his family insisted that he surrender before the police instead of evading police if he was not involved in the crime as reported.
“The family members were told about the crime and the severity of the case which is when they started to cooperate with the police and also managed to convince the absconding Man Bahadur Kami to surrender. He is in police remand for five days and is being interrogated, angles related to his involvement in the crime is being investigated,” informs the SHO.
The 14-year-old juvenile in the meantime is informed to have been produced before the Principal Magistrate, Juvenile Justice Board the same day he was arrested and was remanded to the Juvenile Observation Home at Sichey, Gangtok.
The other two accused have in the meanwhile been sent to judicial custody [on 29 and 30 December].
“The investigation is on the right track and the chargesheet will be submitted shortly. At present, there are some samples that have been sent for testing to Kolkata which will arrive after which the charge-sheet will be filed. The police will leave no stone unturned in the investigation and the guilty will be punished as per the law,” stated PI Subba.

63 year old arrested on charges of raping 5 year old minor

GANGTOK, 20 Sept: One person was arrested by Namchi police on 19 September on charged of raping a minor at Boomtar, Namchi.
According to a written complaint filed by the mother of the victim, her five year old daughter was sexually assaulted by 63 year old Deepan Gurung of the same locality on 18 September at around 5 p.m.
The accused allegedly took the victim to a nearby bamboo field while the mother was out of station.
The accused, it is informed, originally hails from Singbari, Somkaman in Darjeeling and was residing at Boomtar at present.
The accused has been examined and forwarded for medical examination and a case under section 376 [punishment for rape] has been registered against him at the Namchi Police Station. The case is under investigation.

One arrested on rape charges

GANGTOK, 27 June: A case of alleged rape was registered on 26 June at the Temi Police Station.
According to the complainant, on 26 June at around 3 PM Hem Kumar Nepal of Rorathang in East Sikkim, driver of a truck [WB-73/B/7258], was going towards Ravangla with a consignment of rice from FCI Godown, Rangpo.
The driver gave a lift to the complainant in his vehicle and around 6.30 PM the accused driver stopped his truck near Pabong Bridge and sexually assaulted the complainant.
After registration of the case both, the accused driver and the victim, were forwarded for medical examination and later on the accused was arrested and the vehicle seized, while further investigation of the case is in progress. A case under section 376 [punishment for rape] of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused driver at the Temi Police Station.

Attempt to rape

GANGTOK, 12 June: A case of attempted rape and house trespass has been registered at the Ravangla Police Station on 11 June.
According to a written complaint made by a Zarong resident, his deaf and dumb cousin sister sleeps alone in the ground floor of his home. On 07 June, at around 10.15 p.m., on hearing some noise from the ground floor, the complainant came down to check and saw one Til Man Darjee fleeing. He then found his cousin sister in a state that indicated that there had been an attempt to rape.
The medical opinion has been reserved till the pathological report is received. The accused has been arrested and the case is under investigation.
A case under section 448/376/511 [punishment for house-trespass, punishment for rape and punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment] of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused at the Ravangla Police Station.

Minor raped in Rongli, accused absconds

GANGTOK, 12 Dec: The rape of a minor has been reported from Rongli in East Sikkim. According to reports, the acused, Bimal Pradhan, is absconding. The incident took place on 10 December at around 11 a.m. when the girl was alone at her residence at Lingtam, East Sikkim under Rongli police jurisdiction. The accused, Bimal, also of the same area, is reported to have entered her house and sexually assaulted her. It was in the evening that the girl reported the incident to her mother.
