Science stream to begin at Namchi College with new academic session

GANGTOK, 05 April: Science stream will be added to the courses offered at the Government College, Namchi, from the upcoming academic session onwards, informs the HRDD Secretary, CS Rao.
Speaking to media persons yesterday, the Secretary informed that the demand for the start of a 3-year BSc degree course at the Namchi college was first raised two years ago with Chief Minister Pawan Chamling when he was there for the college’s 15th foundation day celebrations.
Both, general and honours courses will be offered for a BSc degree from Namchi college under Sikkim University, he added. Thus far, only the government college here in Gangtok used to offer a BSc course.

Namchi college observes AIDS Day

NAMCHI, 05 Dec: Marking the World AIDS Day, posters and charts displaying messages on HIV/ AIDS and blood donation were put up by the Namchi Government College from 28 Nov to 01 Dec.In a programme held on the occasion, the Principal, Dr. MP Thapa, briefed students on the alarming threat of HIV AIDS to contemporary society and urged students to come together to combat this global disease.

Namchi College opens admissions

NAMCHI, 03 June: Namchi Government College has announced the opening of admissions for B.A (General and Honours) and B. Com (General) for its Monsoon Semester 2011.
According to the Dean of the college, Royal Rai, the prospectus and the forms can be obtained from the college office from 06 June onwards against payment of Rs. 200. The last date of collecting the forms is 16 June.
The forms can be submitted from 20 till 25 June. Admission will be entertained only after “thorough scrutiny” of the documents submitted by the candidates. Documents like Certificates of Identification and Residential Certificates will be taken as proof of local candidature only when issued by the District Collector.
Candidates should have secured a minimum percentage of 55% in the concerned subject for opting for the Honours courses and overall 50% in 10 + 2 level.
He further informed that with the new semester, a uniform will be introduced for students with the new session.

Research scholar addresses Limboo Department at Namchi college on Constitutional provisions for mother tongues

GANGTOK, 29 May: Bhim Subba, a research scholar at Delhi University, delivered a lecture on “Constitutional Provision of Mother Tongue, with reference to Article 29, 30, 350A, 350B  (ii & iii) and Eight Schedule of the Indian Constitution” at the Limboo Department, Namchi Government College, yesterday, a press release informs.
The main objective behind organising the programme was to make the students aware about the importance of native languages and various provisions provided for mother tongues under the Constitution of India and the challenges that lie ahead, the release explains.

Day2 at Blossom Fest

NAMCHI, 25 Feb: Yesterday, the second day of the Blossom Fest organized by the students of Namchi Government College, featured a dance competition as the main attraction. Five dance groups from all over the state participated. Three groups made it to the final round- CCCT dance group [Chisopani], BRSTP group [Namchi] and Slave of Dance group [Singtam].
