Limboo film ‘Keba Kokma’ premieres at Manan Kendra REBYNA RANA

GANGTOK, 06 Oct: The premiere show of Limboo feature film, ‘Keba KoKma’, was held at Manan Kendra, Development Area today which was organized by the Triveni Sang [Gangtok].
Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, KT Gyalsten, was present as the chief guest today. The Speaker felicitated the film’s crew; Devi Limboo [actor cum singer], Sushila Sawaden [actor], Deepraj Rai [singer], Dhanman Lepcha [actor], Imang Setli [singer], Ranbir Limboo [producer], and Ugen Chopel [director].
President of Triveni Sang, Suncha Angbembe, informed that shooting for the film had started in 2011 and has been shot mostly in rural Nepal. The film bagged the ‘Public Choice Award’ at the Indigenous Film Festival held in 2012 in Nepal along with other awards at the ‘15th International Award Baghdad Film Festival’ held at Iraq in 2013 and ‘South Asian Film Festival’ in 2013.
Pointing out that art has no caste, the Speaker stressed on preserving one’s identity, language and culture. “Leadership is not something you do to people, but it is something you do with people”, said Mr Gyalsten.
The guest of honour, Minister for Roads and Bridges Department, RB Subba said that, though Triveni Sangh is yet to be registered as an organisation, the initiatives as well as efforts which they have taken up have been commendable. The film, he stated, would help people, especially the youth, learn about Limboo culture.
The function was also attended by the former Secretary, Jagat Subba, officials, members of Triveni Sangh, film crew, students, including general public.

“Acharya” releases in Gangtok

GANGTOK, 27 Feb: “Acharya” directed by Sikkimese filmmaker, Prashant Rasaily premiered at Denzong cinema hall here today.
Chief Minister Pawan Chamling and wife Tika Maya Chamling, along with HRDD Minister, NK Pradhan, MLA Gangtok, Dorjee Namgyal, UDHD Minister, DB Thapa and Deputy Mayor, Shakti Singh attended the premier show of the film.
The film is a drama based on the true story of a renowned Nepali singer Bhakta Raj Acharya which has his son Satya Raj Acharya playing the lead role. The film portrays the early days of his resistance and eventual rise to overwhelming popularity which earned him the title of “Bhajan Siromani” in Nepal. He tragically lost his tongue in 1993 due to a disease and couldn’t sing anymore.
The 2 hours 20 minutes long Nepali feature film has been produced by Silk Route Pictures. Released in Nepal in September last year, the film received good reviews and has now opened for the Sikkimese audiences today.

Audience treated to ‘magical’ experience with Dawa’s “Ritual Journeys”

GANGTOK, 08 May: Dawa Tshering Lepcha’s poignant portrayal of the life and tasks of Meryak Lepcha, an 80-year-old Padim [Bongthing] of Dzongu, premiered to a packed audience here at the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology on Saturday.
The 75-minute ethnographic documentary film was released by Padmashree Keepu T Lepcha, respected as “Nekung” by those who know her, and even as Dawa and the anthropologist consultant for the project, Anna Balicki Denjongpa, were initially anxious about the attendance their film would attract, as show-time approached, they could not fit in enough chairs to accommodate everyone who had turned up - there was not even standing space left in the hall yesterday.
Once the lights dimmed, Meyrak, the protagonist of the film, held the audience spell-bound with his affable charm, commitment to the people and his gift and the witty conversations he kept up with Dawa behind the camera.
