Annexure to Emergency Ward inaugurated at STNM Hospital

Gangtok, 28 Apr [IPR]: Health Minister AK Ghatani inaugurated an annexure constructed for the Emergency Ward at STNM Hospital here today. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 39 lakhs, with an area of 1,500 square feet, the 20-bedded annexure is equipped with a washroom for ladies and gents, medical store room and staff duty cabin.

JUST BORN AND ALREADY CROWDED OUT: The STNM Hospital in Gangtok receives too many more patients than it has beds for, and while one can understand lack of space leading to makeshift arrangements for most other patients, it becomes disturbing when even newborns are crowded out. A visit to the maternity ward at STNM Hospital presents the worrying sight of mothers and their newborns lining the corridors, their beds made on the floor. Admittedly, the ward can accommodate only so many newborns and their mothers, but surely, when the ward overflows, better alternatives can be, and should be, worked out.

Paryavaran Mahotsav at STNM Hospital

GANGTOK, 30 June: Paryavaran Mahotsav was celebrated with a plantation drive in the STNM hospital today. The programme was supported by the Department of Forest, Environment and Wildlife.
A press release informs, Minister Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare, AK Ghatani attended the program where he also planted a sapling in the hospital premises.
The program was attended by Secretary Health, Dr.  K Bhandari, PCC cum Medical Superintendent, Dr. Yogesh Verma, Doctors and staff of the STNM hospital who actively participated in the plantation drive. Officers and staff from the Department of Forest Environment and Wildlife were also present during the function.
The Minister during the plantation program encouraged all to participate in making the hospital premises clean and green. After the plantation the Minister inspected the hospital premises and gave necessary instructions for future infrastructure developments within the hospital, the release mentions.
