BJP challenges all-round development claims of the Govt

GANGTOK, 27 June: The Sikkim-BJP has claimed that despite the rosy picture being projected by the State government about all round development in Sikkim, the villages remain underdeveloped.  Defining development in terms of availability of basic facilities like roads, water, health and education for the masses, the BJP has alleged that all of these are lacking in wide swathes of the state.
Speaking to media persons today, the state BJP president, Padam Bahadur Chettri said that the Chief Minister, as the head of the state, should take responsibility for the non-completion of development works, instead of just blaming the officials.
Referring to the ongoing state-wide padhyatra of the BJP, he said that during their village-to-village tour, the party functionaries have received a good number of complaints from the villagers. These include complaints of non-existence of necessary infrastructure and deficient services in the field of road connectivity, drinking water, health and education, added Mr. Chhettri.

Sikkim BJP wants officers to be in station during its village-to-village tour

GANGTOK, 08 June: Bharatiya Janata Party’ Sikkim unit has announced plans to undertake a village-to-village tour of its own starting 12 June and has written to the Chief Secretary asking him to “ensure us that concerned government officials are present and enlighten us on any doubt raised during our visit to the villages”.
The Sikkim BJP president, Padam Bahadur Chettri, in his letter to the CS dated today, adds, “Absence or unconcern on the part of the government officials will make us realize their irresponsibility.”
The letter has also sought that the State administration ensure “personal security” to the touring BJP team.
The tour, he informs, follows from the BJP’s national executive meeting held recently in Lucknow where it was decided to access the development works at the GPU level, Primary Health Centres and Lower Primary Schools and “point out corruption and malpractices in the centrally sponsored schemes in these areas”.
