Funds approved to promote Environment Consciousness

GANGTOK, 30 Oct: In accordance with the Chief Minister’s Forestry and Environment Mission Sikkim-2015, which envisages spreading environment awareness and education in schools and local community with a vision to achieve “100% Environment Conscious Citizens in Sikkim by 2015”, the Forest, Environment & Wildlife Management Department, will be implementing the National Environment Awareness Campaign on the theme ‘Forests for Sustainable Livelihood’ for the year 2011-12, informs an official communiqué from the Deptt.

Lepcha Gaon plants to support green mission

GANGTOK, 15 June: The Sikkim Himalayan Green Group, a Namcheybong-based voluntary organization, carried out a plantation drive at Lepcha Gaon under Kyongsee ward of Namcheybong GPU in East Sikkim today to support the State Green Mission.
The plantation work was initiated under the National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) supported by the Forest Department, a press release informs.
Dup Tshering Lepcha, Forest Guard, supervised the plantation work. The plantation drive was assisted by the Creative Self Help Group, Surya Development Sangh and Jan Sewa Samiti, the release adds.
