Tumin-Lingee youth meet to discuss development of constituency

DIKCHU, 05 Oct: A meeting was convened at the PWD Guest House at Kambal in East Sikkim under Tumin-Lingee constituency on Saturday by the youth to discuss continuation of development plans for the constituency.
The meeting was chaired by Panchayat Zilla member Hemraj Adhikari along with Panchayat President, Rakdong-Tintek, BB Gurung. The focus of the meeting was to discuss plans to make underprivileged youth of the constituency self-reliant.
The youth engaged in the discussions actively and stressed that youth from the constituency be given preference in award of contract work and other activities of the govt.
The meeting also called on the youth to carry forward the “Afno gaon, afai banau” mission of the government more effectively.
The chairpersons of the meeting informed that the resolutions of the meeting will be placed with the area MLA.
A twelve-member adhoc committee headed by Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia and Dharma Raj Adhikari was also nominated during the meeting and it was decided that the next meeting be held on 20 October.

8-year-old killed in fire at Kokaley


DIKCHU, 10 Dec: An eight-year-old boy was killed in an unfortunate mishap here at Lower Kokaley village under Pathuk-Singbel GPU of Tumin Lingee constituency of East Sikkim this afternoon. The child, Prakash Chettri, was caught in a ferocious blaze when the storeroom in which hay had been stacked caught fire at around 1:30 p.m. today.
The store, part of the wooden house belonging to the victim’s father, Dhalanath Chettri, has also been reduced to ashes.
Sources inform that the child was alone at home at the time of the mishap, the rest of the family away in the fields at the time. Initial police investigation into the incident suggests that the victim could have been playing with matchsticks in the store room stacked with hay and accidentally started the fire. The case remains under investigation.
The hay stack blazes fast and hot and the victim was caught in it. Children playing nearby noticed the fire first it is informed and heard the screams of the child, but by the time help arrived, the blaze was already an inferno beyond control. The villagers who rushed to the spot could only access the lower floor where cattle was tied and managed to release them. It was however already too late for eight year old Prakash who perished in the fire.
BDO Tintek, Tenzing Dorjee Denjongpa, rushed to the spot along with zilla member Hem Raj Adhikari, ward panchayat Krishna Regmi and Panchayat secretary Prem Adhikari on hearing of the incident. Police personnel from Makha Check Post also arrived at the spot after which the dead body was sent for autopsy to the District Hospital at Singtam.
The BDO Tintek in conversation with NOW! informed that he has submitted a report on the incident to the SDM Gangtok and that ex-gratia will be released soon to the bereaved family.
The child was studying in Mangan.

SDF party meeting for Tumin-Lingee wraps up at Lower Rakdong


MANGAN, 01 Nov: “The policy of the SDF government is to give priority to women and accordingly, 50% reservation has been provided to the women in the upcoming panchayat polls”, said UD&HD Minister, DB Thapa while addressing an SDF panchayat election meeting here at Lower Rakdong on Wednesday.
Stating that the government has given all political rights to the people, the Minister urged all the people of Lower Rakdong to vote for the SDF candidates. He assured that the party has chosen candidates who are dedicated to serving the people and in case any elected panchayat fails to deliver post elections he stated that the area MLA and the party president would look into the matter.
The Minister also highlighted the ongoing system of LPG cylinder supply under the Public Distribution System [PDS] as per the norms of the central government. Here, he appealed to the people to fill up the forms for the KYC which is mandatory.
HRDD Minister, NK Pradhan in his address urged the people to look past petty personal issues and consider the work done by the SDF government. He further urged people to get involved in the ‘Afno Gaon Afai Banau’ mission and works together towards development.
Similary, Gangtok MLA, Dorjee Namgyal highlighted that panchayats are the representatives of the village who will have to work in consultation with the MLA and the government. Here, he appealed to all to work for the party and endorse their valuable vote and make the party’s candidates victorious.
The SDF zilla candidate from Rakdong-Tintek, Saraswati Regmi assured that she will work more for the people if elected and appealed to all to be united.
The area MLA, Ugen T Gyatso Bhutia said that the people’s dream will be fulfilled as the government will work more for the people. He also stressed on awareness regarding the schemes and programmes of the government where he appealed to all the NGOs and youth to spread awareness among the rural public.
The MLA further urged the public not to believe in panchayat candidates who are not from SDF and added that such candidates do not have any programme and policy. Mentioning that schemes like CMRHM have had a high number of beneficiaries in the Tumin-Lingee constituency, he said that it is time for the people to prove their loyalty to the party.
The function was also addressed by the SDF vice president, Somnath Poudyal, who highlighted about the panchayati Raj system to the people and also informed that SDF is the only party which has brought development in Sikkim.
The uncontested panchayat candidate from Lower Rakdong ward, BB Gurung expressed his gratitude to the villagers of his ward.
Also present in the meeting were, Lhakila Tongden Lepcha [Member of State Planning Commission], former MLA Norjang Lepcha, Shakti Singh Choudhary [Dy Mayor GMC], SDF panchayat candidates from Rakdong-Tintek GPU and party supporters.
Earlier, the welcome address was given by Jigmee Tongden Lepcha (Coordinator) and ended with the vote of thanks by Nesh Lall Gurung, BLC member.

MLA Archery Challenge enters fifth day


CHANGAY SENTI THRASH MONGOLIAN BROTHERS GANGTOK 35-05
MANGAN, 16 Mar:  On the fifth day of the MLA Challenge Cup Archery tournament here at Upper Tintek in East Sikkim which is being organized by Tumin-Lingee Youth Association, Changay Senti went against Mongolian Brothers Gangtok. Changay Senti won the match by 35 points while the opponents scored only 05 points.
Dorjee Bhutia of Changay Senti was awarded the Man of the Match title. The match today was attended by Binod Pandey (Coordinator NHPC) as chief guest and Bhakti Prasad Dhakal (Vice Convener) as a special guest along with ward Panchayat Singbel, HB Chettri and ward Panchayat Pathuk, KB Chettri.
The tournament which started from 12 March has a total of 18 teams participating from across the state.  The final match of the tournament will be played on 02 April.  The match tomorrow will be played between Yangthang Boys and Tathangchen Gangtok.The winners of the tournament will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 and Rs.30,000 to the runner-up team along with trophy.

SHRPP team interacts with Tumin-Lingee public


GANGTOK, 12 March: A team of Sikkim Himali Rajya Parishad Party, East District committee toured Kokaley, Tumin and Raley-Samdong under Tumin-Lingee constituency on Sunday. The team led by Gyalpo Tamang and Gopal Chettri interacted with the local people of these areas.
A SHRPP press release issued by general secretary, Tara Shrestha informs that the team has also taken note of the grievances of the local people of the area. People complained that many 18 September earthquake affected people have not received the relief fund as yet, the release mentions.
According to the release, people alleged that the cheques received by some as relief fund were useless since the bank did not have funds to encash these cheques. It further informs that that the people demanded that the stretch between Dikchu to Dipu Dara of the Teesta Stage V be declared as damaged area and appropriate relief and compensation be provided to the locals through an agreement between the State Government and NHPC.
The team has noted down all these grievances and would take appropriate action by forwarding these grievances to the State and Centre agencies, the release adds.

Ugen Gyatso calls on Tumin-Lingee to maintain model constituency image


SAMDONG, 23 Feb: “Tumin Lingee constituency is moving in the right direction and people’s support is a must to achieve the desired development,” said Ugen Gyatso Bhutia, area MLA-cum-Chief Whip of the Government during the finals of the traditional archery tournament organized by Yangthang Archery Committee here on Wednesday.
Mr. Gyatso, who attended the programme as the chief guest, pointed out that the constituency had been regarded as a model constituency by the Chief Minister during his village to village tour last year and appealed to the public to maintain it with unity and dignity.
Mentioning that the Sikkim Democratic Front was celebrating its second decadal anniversary on 03 and 04 March at Jorethang playground in a grand manner, Mr. Gyatso appealed to the public of Tumin Lingee constituency to join the celebrations whole-heartedly. He announced that the party has expected minimum gathering of one lakh people and urged the public not to miss such a historic occasion.
“SDF party led by the Chief Minister has dedicated its 20 years to the well-being of Sikkimese people and this is the time for us to dedicate a day for the party,” he appealed.
He also urged the party functionaries of the area to give their utmost support to make the occasion a grand success by making proper arrangements for the public to reach the venue and return safely.
He further said that if people feel that he has made any mistakes, they should come forward and speak to him directly. “There are certain negative elements active in the area, but people must not pay attention to them and rather work together peacefully to make the constituency best of the best,” the MLA added.

Tumin-Lingee CEC meeting discusses SDF Day celebration


SINGTAM, 15 Feb:  Each and every party worker from the constituency of Tumin-Lingee should maintain discipline and take responsibility for the upcoming celebration of SDF Day, said area MLA Tumin-Lingee cum Chief Whip while addressing the gathering in a meeting held for the CEC and Panchayats for 16-Tumin-Lingee today here at Marwari Dharamsala at Singtam.  Mr. Bhutia also informed that the party has completed 20 years of its formation and this is the second decadal celebration so all concerned should be responsible for the publicity and other essential work, he urged.
The meeting was held for the CEC members, Panchayat and active party workers of the constituency for the second decadal celebration to be held at Jorethang. Regarding development in the constituency, the MLA said that the few remaining work of CMRHM which had been delayed due to the earthquake will be completed at the earliest.
He also appealed to all to cooperate to make Tumin-Lingee a model constituency in the state and highlighted that the construction of Ramayan Village coming up in the constituency is also a major development along with several other development works in the constituency.
Member of Planning Commission, Lhakila Tongden Lepcha highlighted that the people of Tumin-Lingee are very cooperative and dedicated and further urged them to be more involved in party works and in the developmental process. Stating that the area MLA has done a lot for the people of the constituency on behalf of the party she further urged everyone to cooperate in the mission.
Former MLA, Norjang Lepcha appealed to all Panchayat, CEC members, BLC members to come forward for development and also highlighted about the development under taken by the government at the grassroot level. Member of Planning Commission, Lhakila Tongden Lepcha, former MLA Norjang Lepcha, Panchayat & Zilla members and party supporters attended the meeting.

Khesay bodybuilder thanks MLA and trainer for believing in him


GANGTOK, 02 Jan: Ganesh Neopaney of Khesay basti, East Sikkim which falls under Tumin-Lingee constituency won the first Classic Body Building Championship 2011 held in Gangtok on 23 December 2011.
According to a press release, Mr Neopaney was spotted by Chief Whip, area MLA, Ugen T Gyatso who sponsored his training at Arnold Body Fitness Centre under trainer Satish Oswal. The parents, Gram Panchayats and villagers of Khesay have extended their gratitude towards the MLA, the trainer and the organising committee of the competition.

MLA visits Birdha Ashram at Lower Samdong

KAMBAL, 15 Nov: Tumin-Lingee MLA, Ugen Gyatso Bhutia, visited the under-construction Birdha Ashram at Lower Samdong in East Sikkim on 13 November accompanied by State Planning Commission member, Lhakila Tongden Lepcha, and former MLA, Norjang Lepcha, Zilla member, Saraswati Regmi, Cheli vice convenor, Tika Devi Nepal and panchayat members.
The Ashram has been funded by Madhya Bharat Power Project Ltd. and the Ecclesiastical Department. Appreciating the initiative taken by Madhya Bharat Power Project, he discussed the plan and fund requirements for the construction.

GANGTOK, 15 July: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today announced plans to develop Tumin-Lingee constituency as a Pilgrimage Tourism destination. The announcement was greeted by a large applause at Makha, where the CM made his first halt of the day as he resumed his village-to-village tour of the State. With the circuit of West and South districts completed, the CM started with East district today. Through a hectic day of travelling through occasional heavy downpours, the CM met with the people at Makha, Tumin-Barang, Samdong Senior Secondary School and Tintek BAC.
