WEEK-LONG PHOTO EXHIBITION INAUGURATED ON WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY

GANGTOK, 19 Aug: To mark World Photography Day, a week-long exhibition-cum-sale of photographs opened today at Hotel Tashi Delek, MG Marg. The exhibition was inaugurated by former Chief Secretary and renowned floriculturist, KC Pradhan. The exhibition this year is dedicated the late Twang Yang, counted among the pioneers of news photography in the State and includes a special section on his works.
The event is being organized by Vichar Kala Sangam and Vivid Kala Akademi Sikkim. Archival photographs from the IPR Department’s collection, including photographs by Twang Yang, and also those by journalists and other photographers of the state are on display at the exhibition.
Addressing the inaugural function this evening, Mr. Pradhan spoke briefly on the life and works of Twang Yang. He stressed that it was important to collect and preserve old photos of Sikkim and encouraged young people to come forward to protect old photographs. This, he added, would be important documents of the state for the coming generation.
Mr Pradhan mentioned that Sikkim has become a haven for photographers with its scenic beauty, natural resources and mountains. He appreciated the efforts of the organizers in putting together such an event.
Earlier, the inaugural function started with the welcome address by the Press Club of Sikkim president, Bhim Dahal where he shared the plan to organize the event every year. The inaugural function was also addressed by Vivid Kala Akademi president, Kiran Rasaily and a member of Vichar Kala Sangam, Rupesh Sharma.

Weeklong World Photography Day celebration planned

GANGTOK, 03 July: Vivhit Kala Academy has announced plans to celebrate “World Photography Day” with a weeklong series of events in collaboration with Bichar Kala Sangam from 19-26 August at BL House here. This will be the third year that Photography Day celebrations are being hosted by the organization.
Addressing a press conference today, chief coordinator for the event, Kiran Rasaily, informed that celebrated photographer Ashok Dilwali will be among photography enthusiasts on the day.
A photo-exhibition and books display will be hosted at the first floor of BL House while a workshop will be held on the ground floor, Mr. Rasaily informed.
