Interschool seven-a-side football tournaments begin

GANGTOK, 08 Aug: Eleven teams are participating in the Interschool Seven-a-Side Boys Football Tournament being held in memory of Late Diwa Subba, which started on 06 August here at Sir Tashi Namgyal Senior Secondary School ground. The tournament is being organized by Gangtok based Sikkim Royal Sports Academy on the occasion of this year’s Independence Day Celebration.
In today’s match, Burtuk Junior High School outplayed Mt Zion Kidzee 11-03. On Saturday, Tadong SSS will take on Arithang JHS.
Inter School Seven-a-Side Girls Football Tournament was kicked-off today here at the same venue. The first match of the tournament was played between Daffodils and Mt Zion Kidzee. The match ended in 1-1 draw at full time and Mt Zion won the match by 4 goals to 3 in the tie-breaker.
The next match will be played between Deorali Girls SSS and Rongyek JHS on 11 August.
Sikkim Royal Sports Academy treasurer, Allen Targain mentions that this tournament has been organised especially for school going children. Interestingly, the Talent Spotting Committee of the SRSA, which has former national footballers from Sikkim, will be spotting around 25 talented footballers from the participating teams.
“These shortlisted footballers from different schools will then get coached and mentored by the Academy throughout the year,” Mr Targain informed.
