SDF CAMPAIGN REACHES WEST PENDAM Chamling invites people to give continuity to SDF’s programmes and plans for Sikkim


RANGPO, 31 Mar: Sikkim Democratic Front [SDF] president, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, today made various announcements and assurances to continue the development of West Pendam constituency.
Mr. Chamling addressed the people of Rangpo and its surrounding areas at Rangpo Bazaar under West Pendam constituency today as part of his election campaign. The SDF party president started today’s campaigning from Cheuribotey and then at Rangpo Bazaar under West Pendam constituency finally concluding at Rorathang under Rhenock constituency.
In his address at Rangpo Bazaar, Mr Chamling assured that all remaining works will be completed in the next government to make Rangpo the Switzerland of Sikkim since it is the gateway of the state. He announced the construction of children’s parks, proper sewerage system along with upgradation and beautification of Rangpo Bazaar.
He also assured to provide a proper site near the river for Chhat Puja celebrations.
Responding to demands raised by employees of the Sikkim Distilleries, Mr. Chamling assured to look into their demands and other issues.
“Due to peace and security under the SDF government, the business community has received respect and security and an environment for their business to flourish,” he said. He added that due to industrialization promoted by the SDF government, business activity has gone up in the area. He assured to bring more industries for the benefit of the area and to increase the value of the land here.
Speaking to members of the business community, Mr. Chamling announced that residential certificates carrying substantial value will be issued to businessmen and transfer of trade license to the family in case of death notified. He also announced to constitute a Business Community Welfare Board which will have a chairperson from the business community.
The SDF government provided income tax exemption to Sikkim Subjects and is in the process of extending the exemption to others in the state as well, he shared, adding, “We have done our part by passing such a resolution in the state legislative assembly, now, it is being considered by the Centre”. He assured to pursue the matter with the Centre and take it to its logical end.
Sikkim is an exemplary secular state, there are no communal riots and the SDF government has provided respect and freedom to all religions in the state, he stated. He announced the construction of a Kali statue at Garhi to develop the area as a tourist attraction.
He also mentioned that the SDF government has worked to ensure equal rights and status to Scheduled Castes by providing them reservation and other facilities for an inclusive society.
He urged the people to support the SDF candidate, KK Thatal and Lok Sabha candidate, PD Rai for the party´s victory in the coming election, which he said would be the victory of the people. “The security and interest of the people is now in your own hands”, he stated.
Stating that Sikkim has always wished well for the people of Darjeeling hills, Mr. Chamling expressed that Sikkim has never interfered in Darjeeling politics and the state also hopes for the same on their part.
Speaking on the opposition, Mr Chamling accused them of creating violence, vandalizing, pelting stones and other antisocial activities including the murder of two SDF members in the recent past. Although the SDF president did not name the party, it is obvious who he was referring to.
Earlier, SDF Lok Sabha candidate, PD Rai mentioned that the SDF party will win all 32 assembly seats and the lone parliamentary seat due to its able leadership along with programmes and policies. He assured to work in the interest of the people of Sikkim with the central government.
SDF West Pendam candidate, KK Thatal informed about the programmes and plans for further development of the area. While urging for support, he assured to work with the people for the overall development of the area.

SDF campaign in East begins with Makha

MAKHA, 30 Mar: The SDF party president, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, began his election campaign in East district on Saturday from Tumin-Lingee constituency where he held a public meeting at Makha Bazaar in East Sikkim.
Addressing the handsome gathering, Mr. Chamling said that the SDF party will again sweep all 32 seats and that the election process was a formality to reiterate the complete faith of the people in the SDF. Highlighting the demands placed by the people of Tumin-Lingee, he announced the construction of a Namsoong Ground at Lingee, establishment of SDM office, State Bank of Sikkim brancg, Primary Health Centre at Makha and the development of Makha as a heritage market.
Mr. Chamling also announced that he will coordinate with the central government regarding the regularisation of local employees at NHPC and the setting up of an industry at Singbel. He further urged the people not to be misguided by the “goonda party” which is creating nuisance in the peaceful atmosphere of Sikkim.
Earlier, while delivering the welcome address, the SDF candidate of Tumin-Lingee, Ugen T Gyatso Bhutia highlighted the development brought about in Tumin-Lingee constituency. In a span of 5 years, three schools have been upgraded to senior secondary level, carpeting work has been done on 45km roads, 55 kms new roads have been constructed, Ramayan Village, etc, were some of the developments he highlighted. Now it is time for the people of Tumin-Lingee to repay the SDF party, he said.
Ex-panchayat Sonam Tshering Lepcha and others joined the SDF party at Makha where they were welcomed by the SDF president.
SDF Lok Sabha candidate PD Rai also addressed the gathering where he said that there is no substitute for SDF in Sikkim. A similar meeting was also held at Singtam Bazaar for Singtam-Khamdong constituency.
