SNT revises bus fares

GANGTOK, 13 Sept: The Sikkim Nationalized Transport [SNT] has revised its passenger fare for the SNT buses.
As per the new rates the charge is Rs 1.50 per passenger per kilometer for a distance upto 20 km; for distances above 20 km, the charge is to be Rs.1.20 per passenger per kilometer. The minimum chargeable amount will now be Rs.5 per passenger.
The new rates will become applicable from the month of October, 2012.

SNT adjudged Best Operating Hill Service in country

GANGTOK, 03 Jan: The Association of State Road Transport Undertakings under the Ministry of Road Transport, GoI, has conferred the ASRTU Productivity Award for the year 2009-10 for Best Operating Hill Services amongst all State Transport Units [STU] on the Sikkim Nationalised Transport.
The award, as per an official communiqué dispatched to the SNT General Manager, ND Rai, will be presented at the 56th Annual Conference of STUs scheduled to be held at Mantra Hall,15 Parliament Street, The Park Hotel, New Delhi on 09 January next week.

North continues to wonder why SNT buses abandoned them

MANGAN, 20 July: This is a demand that the people of North Sikkim have been raising off and on for 15 years now. Apart from the demand having remained ignored all this while, no one has even bothered to explain why the demand for resumption of the Gangtok-Mangan SNT bus service is so impossible to grant.
SNT buses stopped plying this route 15 years ago, and despite frequent demands for the resumption of this cheaper and more affordable service, the buses have not returned. What rankles the people is that no reason has been offered. This, despite the fact that SNT, ever since it has a passenger service, has plied the Gangtok-Mangan route, starting in times when it had only a fleet of mini buses.
Commuters miss the service most during tourist season when the regular jeep services prefer to ferry tourists.
AS CJ Lepcha of Mangan points out, during tourist season, vehicles are not available for hire and the usual jeeps become very erratic in their service. With an SNT service, people will not have to suffer this uncertainty and will have the option of at least a reliable bus service.

SNT starts Gangtok-Darshan bus tour

GANGTOK, 02 May [IPR]: Starting this week, a daily local sight-seeing tour, ‘Gangtok Darshan’ is being introduced by the SNT, bus division, under the Government’s 100 days programme, according to a press communiqué received from the Transport Department.
Starting from the Gangtok booking office, the tour will cover Ganesh Tok/ Himalayan Zoological Park, Selep water treatment plant, Tashi View Point, Bakthang falls and Ban-Jhankri falls. 30-seater buses along with a guide will be placed at the disposal of TAAS (Travel Agent Association of Sikkim) for this service.

SNT buses rev up for new routes and improved services

GANGTOK, 29 April: The Sikkim Nationalised Transport [SNT] has finalized plans to introduce buses services from Rangpo to Kakarivitta, Nepal, from Rangpo to Kolkata, Rangpo to Jaigaon, the border with Bhutan and Rangpo to Bodhgaya,Jharkhand in the coming days.
“We want to increase our mileage and want to keep up with being the best transport service providers in the region. We want to make Rangpo our base and augment our fleet on a war footing,” informed chief engineer cum general manager, SNT Division, ND Rai while speaking to NOW! today.
He added that SNT will also be initiating a new direct bus service from Gangtok to Kalimpong after the elections in West Bengal and also add 6 new buses for the “Gangtok- Darshan” circuit which will prove helpful to the tourists.

SNT begins Gangtok-Tumin bus service

GANGTOK, 29 April [IPR]: On the request of the public, the area MLA and the staff of the Block Administrative Centre, Tintek, the SNT Department has started a bus service to cater especially to teachers, office goers and public from Gangtok to Tumin from Friday onwards.
The bus leaves at 8 a.m. in the morning from Gangtok and goes up to Tumin and back. In the afternoon it leaves at 1.30 p.m. on the same route and fetches passengers from the respective destinations.
On the first day of the service yesterday, Joint Secretary, SNT Division, Navin Chettri, also travelled up to Tintek where a meeting with the public, Panchayats and BAC staff was held to disseminate information about the bus service.
Employees and teachers agreed to book the bus on monthly pass system and assured to extend full cooperation to the department for the successful operation of the service.
On behalf of the public and staff, BDO Tintek (in-charge), KL Lepcha, expressed gratitude towards the SNT for providing bus services in the area.
