GANGTOK, 31 Aug: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today met victims of a land dispute at Chipsu Saino Taar at Lower Tarku Mangley and apart from enquiring on their condition also assured to make alternative arrangements for them from the government’s side at the earliest. Three families from Chipsu Saino Taar have reportedly been rendered homeless following their eviction from a disputed private tract of land and have been living in a shed at Mangley ground for the past 20 days.
The families of Til Bahadur Limboo, 90 year old Seshmoti Limboo and Gautam Katwal, numbering 16 include a 4 year old baby and today petitioned the Chief Minister to look into their matter and initiate necessary action as soon as possible. The families, it may be recalled, have also been alleging intimidation by the landowner.
The Chief Minister, in his interactions with the homeless families, assured them all assistance even as he stressed that as far as the court case was concerned, they could not interfere in it since the Courts were independent entities; the government could, and will, however, take the initiative to provide the families with alternative arrangements at the earliest.
He also assured the family members that if they have been wronged or threatened, all efforts will be made to secure justice for them.
He also reiterated his regret at what the families had to suffer and stressed that such things should not have happened.
