SUTWA reminds protesting ad-hoc teachers of affect on students

NAMCHI, 30 Oct: The Central Committee of Sikkim United Teachers Welfare Association (SUTWA) has highlighted that students are bearing the brunt of the ongoing standoff between the ad-hoc teachers and the state government. A SUTWA release states that the strike called by ad-hoc teachers has directly hampered the future of students.
In this regard, SUTWA Central Committee has welcomed the state government’s initiative to regularize the incumbents if they get through the TET. The general secretary of SUTWA West District, Govind Lohagan, along with president SUTWA Central Committee, Kumar Subba, state that it is the students who have become the real victims of the ongoing strike and have appealed to all to consider the problems faced by the students.

SUTWA welcomes 30% hike in HRDD budget

GANGTOK, 07 Sept: The Sikkim United Teachers Welfare Association has welcomed the Chief Minister’s announcement on 05 September i.e Teacher’s Day of a 30% increase in budget allocation to the HRDD next year.
Expressing gratitude to the CM, the association has stated that training eligible educated youth for various national level competitive examinations also announced by the CM “is a tremendous leap forward taken by our CM for the upliftment of the educated youth of the State and to create our own manpower in various fields in the state itself”, as per a SUTWA release.
The release also mentions that the CM has stated that those transferred teachers who have genuine problems will be sent back to their original place of posting and the school uniforms, which were earlier being distributed by contractors, will be provided by the school itself from the next session onwards.
The association has also extended its whole-hearted cooperation in inculcating human and moral values amongst students in the state, as advocated by the CM.

STA and SUTWA condole the passing away of former member

GANGTOK, 01 Feb: A joint meeting of Sikkim Teachers’ Association [STA] and Sikkim United Teachers’ Welfare Association [SUTWA] was convened on 31 January at STA headquarters in Tathangchen, Gangtok to condole the demise of Late RP Sharma who passed away on 21 January 2012.
The meeting observed two minutes silence to pay homage to the departed soul, who was a senior advisory board member in STA for a long time, informs a press release. He had worked as a teacher at Rongyek JHS till the last working session 2011.
The STA as well as the SUTWA will remember him for his contribution towards the welfare of the teaching community and the association. He had extended his selfless service not only to the teachers’ associations but to many other social and literary organizations as well, the release mentions.
The association deeply prays for the peace of the departed soul as well as for courage to the family members in this time of bereavement, the release adds.
