GOC 27 Mtn Division calls on CM

GANGTOK, 02 July [IPR]: GOC 27-Mountain Division, Kalimpong, Major General Gurpal Singh Sangha, commissioned into the 11th Bn Grenadian Regiment called on the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling at his official residence Mintokgang here in the capital this morning.
During the meeting the Maj General congratulated the Chief Minister for his fifth term in office and good governance. He informed about the Army coordination in the eastern region and the expansion of infrastructures in the area.
During the discussion the Maj General informing the Chief Minister about the various issues of army in the border areas said that army in the border areas is for the security of the Nation as well as to fight against any form of natural disaster.
The Major General also presented a souvenir to the Chief Minister during the meeting.
While taking to the Major General the Chief Minister said that there is good coordination between army and the state government and hoped for the same in the future. He also assured the General that his government will provide any possible help and cooperation to the army.

GOC Trishakti Corps calls on CM

GANGTOK, 04 June [IPR]: GOC Trishakti Corps, Lt. General SS Chandel called on the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Pawan Chamling at his official residence, Mintokgang this evening.
The Chief Minister while welcoming Lt. Gen. Chandel to Sikkim said that Sikkim has adopted a development model for the progress of the state and its people but unless all the stakeholders including politicians, people and government servants become responsible and accountable to the task with a feeling of patriotism it is very difficult to implement policies and programmes in a democratic set up.
There has been a visible change in the state in all sectors but the stakeholders are yet to acknowledge it, the Chief Minister added. Referring to raising one more Scout Battalion from the state the Chief Minister assured Mr Chandel to take action in the interest of the people of the state and nation.
The Chief Minister also urged Mr Chandel to take initiatives from his side to expedite the works of the NH 31A as better road network will be beneficial to the army as well as to the civilian population. As this is a joint concern the duo decided to take joint initiative in this regard. The Chief Minister also assured to assist and cooperate with the Army in any matters concerning the interest of the nation.
During the interaction Lt. Gen Chandel congratulated the Chief Minister for his victory in the recently concluded election. He also appreciated the way in which policy is framed and implemented especially in environment and ecology sector.
Referring to the Chief Minister as a time tested leader he said that many states of India have a lot to learn from the good practices adopted in Sikkim in various sectors. The development model which has been adopted in the state is a lesson to be learned, he added. He also thanked the Chief Minister for raising the Sikkim Scout Battalion and further said that one more Scout Battalion can be raised in the state.
