SICB begins two more demand-driven capacity building courses

TRAINING BEGINS FOR PROSPECTIVE CAREGIVERS AND HOUSEKEEPERS
GANGTOK, 19 May: The State Institute of Capacity Building has started two more Livelihood Schools, these offering courses for Caregivers and Housekeeping at Karfectar in South Sikkim and Pelling in West Sikkim respectively.
The 3-month long course for Caregivers is being conducted at the SICB campus at Karfectar and trainees will be placed in Singapore upon successful completion of the course, an official press release informs. The travel documents like passports and immigration papers are being processed to ensure that the trainees have their document ready by the time they complete their course.
The SICB has engaged experts to train candidates in care of senior citizens, soft skills, inter-personal relations and proficiency in English language. A total of 23 candidates from different parts of Sikkim are undergoing this course.
Similarly, a six month course for housekeeping skills has also been started at Pelling, West Sikkim recently to cater to the job market readily available for this trade. The south district Zilla Panchayat and NGO from Yangang helped find suitable candidates from Yangang and Rabong area where the demand of such trainees is already felt. The candidates, after the training are expected to be placed in Rabong and Sikkim University in Yangang as informed by Zilla Panchayat and other institutions. Nonetheless, the SICB will also support the trainees for their placements in fine Hotels and other organizations for their placement, the release adds.

SICB acquires solar capacity along with SIRD

SREDA COMMISSIONS ITS LARGEST VENTURE IN SIKKIM – TWO 100 KW SOLAR POWER PLANTS
JORETHANG, 22 Jan: Secretary RMDD, DR Nepal inaugurated a 100 KW Solar Power Plant in the State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB) and the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) at Karfectar South Sikkim today. The unit has been set up by the State Renewable Energy Development Agency, Sikkim.
Speaking as the chief guest, the RMDD Secretary congratulated the two institutes on receiving the largest solar plant in the State and remarked that the installation would help in the smooth functioning of these institutes by meeting their power requirements. These solar plants have not only lighted the institutes externally but have also lit up the lives of the students as well by making them supporters of a pursuit of renewable energy, said Mr Nepal and also commended the work achieved by SICB and its outstanding performance in empowering the rural youth.
He added that the solar plant was an example of technology being used to conserve earth’s resources by making renewable sources of energy more accessible and practical and urged the people to utilize the constructive effect of modern technology to empower their lives.
Informing the gathering regarding various activities and achievements of SREDA in the state, Director SREDA, Siphora Targain said that today’s project was SREDA’s biggest venture ever in the state till date. She added that since SICB and SIRD are two premier institutes of the state, they were chosen for the ambitious project and also with the hope that starting here would create awareness on renewable energy options.
She informed that SREDA was constituted by the State Government in the year 1999 and mandated for promoting and popularizing renewable energy. Sharing the achievements of SREDA in the year 2011-12, Ms Targain said that 20 KW Micro Hydel Plant was commissioned in Dzongu Gor in North Sikkim, 20 KW Solar Power Plant was commissioned at Sikkim Legislative Assembly, 230 Biogas plants were constructed and awareness camps were organized, 14500 Solar Lanterns were distributed, 100 Solar Water Heaters were distributed to the public of North Sikkim and 5000 Solar home Lights are being distributed to Religious Institutions, Police Check Posts, PHCs and NGOs.
Presenting the welcome address, Project Officer SREDA, Tashi Choppel informed the gathering that the solar plant was implemented by SREDA under the Ministry of New Renewable Energy, a Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) programme. It is a joint venture of the State Government and Government of India informed Mr Tashi.
The objective of this project is to endorse renewable energy, create awareness among the masses and encourage the fight against climate change, he explained. The Project Officer further said that earlier SICB was consuming 60 KW of non-renewable energy and similarly SIRD was consuming 150 KW, and now they have been provided with 100 KW Solar Power Plants each in their respective complexes. The project was commissioned at a total cost of Rs 2.41 lakh each and this is the first project under JNNSM programme implemented in the state.
Chief Administrator of SICB highlighted the programmes, activities and achievements of SICB through a power point presentation. He added that the inauguration of the solar plant would help the institute function more smoothly and efficiently without disturbance of power cuts which otherwise was a hurdle in the smooth and successful functioning of SICB.
Director SIRD, AK Mohanty also spoke on the occasion.  Mr Nepal released the Biogas video DVD and SREDA calendar on the occasion. The programme ended with the vote of thanks from Assistant Project Officer SREDA, Aruna Bhutia. Earlier after the inauguration, the chief guest accompanied by officials of SREDA formally switched on the solar plant machine in the respective complex marking the inaugural ceremony.
Also present were Official Dignitaries of SREDA, SRDA, SIRD, RMDD and students and instructors of SICB.

Cochin placements for 70 Livelihood School trainees

GANGTOK, 18 Jan: A group of 19 trainees of Livelihood Schools in the state will soon be joining Lulu Hypermart at Cochin, Kerala as Sales Representatives and Cashiers. Lulu Hypermart had selected 70 trainees at State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB) Karfectar last week.
A press release informs that the remaining trainees will be joining the mart batch-wise within this month.  The second batch of 25 trainees will be leaving on 23 January 2013.
The company will provide all the facilities as per the HR policy of the company with a minimum salary of Rs. 10,000, plus accommodation and food during the provisional period.
The salary will be raised after the completion of 6 months on the basis of their performance. All the candidates are trainees of Retail Management Livelihood School of Arithang, Spoken English and Personality Development from Upper Burtuk and Foreign Language Livelihood School of Rangang Yangang, the release mentions.

Malpani Trust to provide free training to SICB trainees

GANGTOK, 18 Nov: The State Institute of Capacity Building and the Malpani Trust of Bajwada, Madhya Pradesh signed an agreement today at SICB.  A press release informs that the objective behind SICB and Malpani Trust coming together is to assist, facilitate and add value to provide practical training in organic farming for a period of one month to all trainees of Livelihood Schools for Agriculture and Horticulture related courses at their farm at Dewas, Madhya Pradesh.
The purpose of the training is to harness the potentiality of the trainees on organic and sustainable farming through NATUECO Science.  The Malpani Trust is highly impressed with the State Government’s initiative to declare the State as Organic by 2015 and the process started towards that direction, the release mentions.
The Trust believes in individual growth and development through Capacity Building in the Agriculture and Horticulture Sector including value addition and entrepreneurship leading to the prosperity of the State.  The Trust will not only train the youth on farming but simultaneously develop their inner confidence to be a new breed of farmers who is consciously aware for his better livelihood.
The concept of capacity building is highly appreciated by Malpani Trust as both the institutions have the same concept and motto to develop the capacity of youth.
The Malpani Trust has offered training free of cost in their farm alongwith food and accommodation to the trainees of the batch of 40 trainees at a time for a period of one month.  It was also decided to depute the first batch from 01 to 31 December 2012, the release informs.
The SICB is sponsoring all the trainees of Livelihood Schools related with Agriculture and Horticulture with a batch of forty each alongwith two Trainers.  It is also agreed that the training will be conducted throughout the year except in the months of April, May and June.
This is being done as the trainees of the hill area find it difficult in these months due to the hot temperature in the plains. The Trust has also offered to provide consultancy and follow-up in each Livelihood School related with Agriculture and Horticulture quarterly without charging any fees to SICB, the release further adds.

SICB beautician trainees to undergo on-job training in Madhya Pradesh

GANGTOK, 10 Oct: Trainees of the six-month training programme on Hair, Beauty and SPA being conducted in State Institute of Capacity Building [SICB] were deputed for on-job training at Indore, Madhya Pradesh today. The trainees will be trained at Zivaya SPA for another three months there.
A press release informs that the trainees will be provided with a consolidated remuneration of Rs. 8,000 during the period of three months along with accommodation. After the completion of the three-month training all of them will be placed by Zivaya SPA at different locations in the metros and big cities.
The SICB earlier finalized the on-job training and placement of 30 trainees on minimum salaries of Rs 12,000 to 15,000 with accommodation. The campus interview, selection process and soft skill training was conducted after the selection of the candidates. Out of the forty trainees of the institute ten trainees refused the offer for personal reasons.
The release adds that SICB is further looking forward to train and place the trainees in lucrative sectors like Hotel Management and Catering Services, Tour Guides, Chef and BPO. A few days ago the SICB deputed nearly forty trainees of Kewzing Livelihood School for Hotel Management and Catering Services for outreach and Industrial Training in five star hotels at Jaipur, Gujarat and Pune.
The trainees are likely to be selected on the basis of their performance in these hotels after the industrial training and the course is completed, the release further mentions.

20 Chef trainees selected in on-campus recruitment at SICB

GANGTOK, 04 Oct: All twenty Chef trainees of State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB) have been selected in the on-campus recruitment conducted today.
A press release informs that out of the twenty trainees, however, 10 trainees were selected under on-job training whereas the remaining 10 trainees were directly recruited by reputed Hotels from Jaipur, Gujarat and Pune.
The Hotel Chamu Palace, Jaipur has appointed two trainees, The Fern (Gir Forest Resort), Gujarat also selected two trainees, Hotel Gold Palace (Resort and SPA), Jaipur has provided on-job training to four trainees.
Similarly, three trainees are placed at The Season at Pune, five trainees at Norbu Gang Resort, Pelling and three at Park Hotel, Kalimpong, the release mentions.
The SICB has been conducting the Chef training for the last one year and all the trainees are placed in good properties outside and within the state.  It may be mentioned that Chamu Palace, a reflection of the Royal Palaces of India, is a 300-year-old elegant fortified palace hotel and one of the places to visit in Rajasthan.
Considering the availability of job in five star properties outside the state and requirement of chefs within the state, the SICB is starting another batch of trainees from November 2012.  This is a highly technical training and the package of salary and facilities are also better than other jobs, the release adds.

SICB officers return from inspection visit to placement options in Maharastra and Madhya Pradesh

POSITIVE FEEDBACK LEAD TO INITIATION OF BASIC TEACHERS’ TRAINING COURSE

GANGTOK, 03 Oct: Officers from the State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB) recently undertook a weeklong visit to Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh to assess facilities provided by employers to the trainees of Livelihood Schools placed at Mumbai, Gwalior, Indore, Bhopal and Ujjain.
SICB Chief Administrator, SD Dhakal, informs that the Joint Chief Administrator KB Pradhan and Deputy Director Ranjan Rai, who undertook the inspection visit, interacted not only Sikkimese youth employed at these facilities [after their training at Livelihood Schools here], but also held special meetings with the employers and have returned with an update on the facilities and terms of services.
An SICB press release informs that a sizeable number of trainees, after completion of a course at Core Skill Development, have been placed at Sohum SPA, Yatharth Futuristic Academy (Bhopal), Mastermind International School, and Shri Sanskara Academy at different locations in Madhya Pradesh.
The touring officers interacted with the employed Sikkimese youth and found that they have been offered a salary package of Rs. 10,000 with free accommodation and transport facilities at all locations.
The trainees of Livelihood Schools for computer hardware and software are placed as computer faculty in private schools in Madhya Pradesh.
The release adds that the officers also held a special meeting with Core Education Group, a pioneer on Skill Development within India and abroad and explored the possibility of placing more persons in different private schools in Madhya Pradesh and met the authorities of the schools as well.
The authorities have given the excellent feedback and expressed their full satisfaction of the work being carried out by them.  They also urged to train more youth for employment in their schools in future and insisted to provide them the basic knowledge on teaching, the release states.
In view of this, the SICB has immediately [wef 01 Oct 2012] started a Basic Teacher’s Training Course at Gangtok for 50 trainees to meet the requirement of the these schools, the release informs. Similarly, a batch of 50 trainees is being trained at Namchi Centre from 01 November onwards, the release adds.
The SICB is exploring all possibilities to train youth in different skills in demand in the job market and it was in pursuance of this aim that a new Livelihood School on Construction Trade was recently started at Turuk.  A batch of 42 trainees have already passed out from the Chakung Livelihood School on Construction Trade and are now self employed and engaged in the construction of houses in their respective localities under CMRHM and REDRH houses, the release informs.

53 SICB trainees find job placements in MP and UP

ANOTHER LIVELIHOOD SCHOOL BEING PLANNED FOR YANGTHANG CONSTITUENCY; 100 YOUTH COMPLETE 3 MONTH DRIVER-CUM-TOUR GUIDE COURSE
GANGTOK, 11 July: The State Institute of Capacity Building [SICB] has placed 53 trainees from Chujachen, Namchi-Singithang and Yangthang Livelihood Schools for computer hardware and software at different places in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
A press release informs that considering the need for competency on Computer and English teaching at the primary school level, the Shree Sanshkar Academy has appointed 12 SICB candidates this year. The Academy which has a large number of schools in Madhya Pradesh had appointed our trainees last year also, the release mentions.
Following, good reviews of the performance of Sikkimese teachers in Madhya Pradesh, now some other schools like Yatharth Futuristic Academy of Ujjain, Ambition Convent School and MM International have also selected Sikkimese youth in large numbers.
In addition, some of the candidates have been appointed by Tekchand Jain Public School and Katiyani Public School in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The teachers will be paid minimum of Rs. 9000 along with free accommodation in their campus teachers’ quarters, the release informs. They will also get leave and summer and winter vacation as per the schools’ academic calendar.
Besides Madhya Pradesh, some of the schools in Ajamgarh and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh have also started approaching SICB for campus recruitment. The placement Cell of SICB is in touch with the different employing agencies within the country including local employers, the release adds.
On the other hand, the SICB held the convocation for Driver-cum-Tour Guide Trainees from Chujachen, Khamdong and SICB Livelihood Schools on 10 July. They were provided with Driving License including a Certificate from IGNOU and mark sheet of the State Board of Livelihood School.
Altogether 100 trainees passed after three months of training in these Livelihood Schools. It may be recalled that the SICB has so far trained 650 Driver-cum-Tour Guides after its inception and barring this batch all of them are working either in private institutions, companies and some of them are earning their livelihood through their own source of capital.
The SICB is in the process of starting another Livelihood School in Yangthang constituency in consultation with the area MLA, PL Subba considering the huge number of applicants from the area, the release further informs.

State’s 35th Livelihood School opens at Yuksom

‘TOUR GUIDING’ TRAINING AT TREKKING’S GATEWAY TOWN 
GANGTOK, 05 July: The State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB) opened its 35th Livelihood School at Yuksom under Yuksom Tashiding constituency on 04 July for Tour Guiding Skill.  The Minister for Animal Husbandry, Livestock, Fisheries and Veterinary Services was the chief guest on the occasion.  A press release informs that the Livelihood School at Yuksom was opened with the aim to provide nature tour with trekking including waste and camp management skill in the state of Sikkim.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had categorically directed that highly skilled tour and trekking guides should be prepared to manage the requirements of tourists in future in a meeting held at SICB on 30 April 2012. Training on this particular skill is another phase of the Livelihood School initiative to fill the skill gaps and achieve the mission and policy announced by the State Government recently to train nearly 17000 youth by 2015, the release mentions.
Towards achieving this goal, SICB has started imparting training in new and employable areas.  Very recently the SICB has started a course on Multimedia and Tally at Karfectar.  Similarly, it plans to train the youth on orange and cardamom rejuvenation as pilot projects very soon, the release informs.
It is further mentioned that SICB has found a partner of international repute with an experience of 22 years in the field of eco-tourism, conservation and managing the carrying capacity of trekking routes. The trainees will be taken for outreach programme in different trekking routes currently in operation in Sikkim.
The trainees will be provided training on operational event management of trekking, food and nutrition, garbage management, bio-diversity conservation, ornithological exposure, identification of flora and fauna in these trekking routes in particular and Sikkim in general.
SICB will support the trainees for obtaining license from the competent authorities and the creation of individual online blogs before completing their training so that they may be able to start their livelihood after the completion of the training, the release adds.  
The inaugural function was attended by Chief Administrator, S.D. Dhakal, Joint Chief Administrator, K.B. Pradhan, Deputy Chief Administrator of SICB, Sunil Kr. Mothay, all office bearers of Kanchendzonga Conservation Committee, Panchayat Members, and senior citizens.

Sikkim’s skill building initiative impresses Arunachal Minister

GANGTOK, 11 June: Agriculture Minister, Arunachal Pradesh along with Commissioner cum Secretary, Agriculture Department, Arunachal Pradesh, Hage Kojin and other officials visited the State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB), Karfectar on Sunday to get familiarized with the concept and genesis of Livelihood School and Capacity Building programs in Sikkim.
As per an SICB release, a special program and interactive session was held at the Mini conference hall of SICB at 7:00 PM. The Joint Chief Administrator, KB Pradhan welcomed all the delegates and informed the house about the establishment of State institute of Capacity Building, Karfectar, South Sikkim and Livelihood Schools.
Chief Administrator, SD Dhakal, in his power point presentation delivered in length about the concept of the Government of Sikkim for establishment of Livelihood Schools in all assembly Constituencies of Sikkim monitored by SICB.
He further explained in detail about the functioning, monitoring, diversified courses running in Livelihood Schools, installation of Management Information System (MIS), admission criteria, disbursement of stipend, outreach program, placements, certification of courses, functioning of service partners, collaboration with IGNOU, IIE, Ministry of Small, Micro and Medium Enterprise, Government of India, Lalmati, Guwahati, North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC), North East Rural Livelihood Project Sikkim (NERLPS).
Minister, Mr Sena in his deliberation appreciated the concept of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Pawan Chamling and was pleased to know about the conditions adopted by the SICB and Livelihood Schools which are mandatory for obtaining stipend and skills, the release informs.
He further applauded the strong political will of the Chief Minister of Sikkim in this sector. The Minister expressed his desire to implement the idea of Livelihood School for the benefit of the youth of Arunachal Pradesh.
He further expressed that there is need of exchange of views between Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim in this field. Sikkim is a role model not for North East states only but to other states of the country as well and it is a happening and progressive State, he said.
The release adds that during the interactive session, a brain storming discussion took place between the delegates present. A detailed discussion on various aspects like fund allocation, courses and syllabus, certification, status of trainers, pedagogy, training modules, monitoring of trainees and trainers of Livelihood Schools and SICB, faculty members qualification, appointment of officers of SICB and other academic and administrative matters.
Accompanying Minister Sena on the visit were Director, Agriculture Marketing, AK Purkastha, Managing Director, Marketing Federation, President, National Youth Project-Arunachal Pradesh, HP Biswas, Deputy Director (Horticulture), Arunachal Pradesh, Narang Tani, Senior Journalist, Pradeep Kumar, ADC, Jairampur, M Roy, In-charge, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) Sikkim Branch, AS Dewan and NGO representatives from Arunachal Pradesh.
The program ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Deputy Chief Administrator, Sunil Kumar Mothay while the program was coordinated by Deputy Director (Resource & Coordination), Dr. IBS Yadav.

Increase number of trainees to 4,000 CM suggests SICB

KARFECTAR, 30 April [IPR]: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, who is also the Chairperson of the State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB) Society, chaired the 2nd meeting of the SICB Society Governing Board here at the SICB mini conference hall today.
During the meet Member Secretary/ Chief Administrator, SD Dhakal made a presentation and placed the annual report of SICB for the year 2011-12 and also presented various agenda for discussion and made a demonstration of Management Information System.
As per the information received from Chief Administrator of SICB, Mr Dhakal, the Chief Minister during the closed door Governing Board meet suggested that the number of students availing training from the institution should be raised up to 3000 to 4000, which at present is up to 1800 to 2000.
He also assured full cooperation from the government to the Institution and assured that adequate fund will also be provided for the institution.
Mr. Chamling further added that work culture in the students who are being trained in this institution should be developed and counselling should be given. He appealed to the institution and its Chief Administrator to give more attention to the students of rural areas to build their capacity and make them skilled and self reliant individuals.
Various plans and schemes for the Institution were also passed and approved during the meet.
The establishment of a full fledged State Institute of Capacity Building at Karfectar with the purpose of imparting training and transfer of knowledge and building stronger capacities of the unemployed youth is perceived with a visionary intent, the Chief Minister added.
The annual report of 2011-12 which was presented during the meet had various activities of SICB from 01 April 2011 to 31 March 2012
The following are some of the main activities of the institution during the past one year.
MP Lok Sabha, PD Rai, Chairman BASIX- India, Vijay Mahajan, South Shore Bank USA, Mrs. Marie and Chief Executive Officer of Edelwis group of Finance, Rajesh Shah visited the Institute and examined the various activities going on therein.
Training of Trainers for selected Master Trainers and Assistant Trainers of Livelihood Schools was conducted to familiarize them with Management Information System to track the record of all the trainees of Livelihood Schools for three consecutive years.
The following livelihood schools were opened, which are Lachen- Mangan Livelihood School for Cooking and Catering ( Hotel Management) inaugurated on 02 July 2011, Martam- Rumtek Livelihood School for  Organic farming was inaugurated on 15 July 2011, Gnathang Machong Livelihood School for Motor Mechanic (Automobile Repairing) was inaugurated on 24 July 2011, Soreng- Chakhung Livelihood School for Construction trade (Plumber) was inaugurated on 27 July 2011, Gyalshing-Bernyak Livelihood School for Security Guard trade was inaugurated on 01 August 2011.
Chief Administrator, Mr Dhakal visited the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) in Lalmati, Guwahati, Assam to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the officials of IIE to get registered as partner to conduct Entrepreneur Development Programme (EDP) and Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP) for the trainees of all Livelihood School on 11 August 2011.
An orientation session for officers and staff of SICB was held at the Institute regarding updating of official website (www.sicbsikkim.org) of the Institute by Cyber InfoTech, Namchi.
The Trainees for apparel design/dress design course under West Pendam Livelihood School were taken for a month long Industrial training at Kolkata
The trainees of Dzongu Livelihood School were provided On Job Training (OJT) to bestow them tangible knowledge as Heads on Experience at Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Sikkim Centre, Tadong for four days.
Second meeting of State Board of Livelihood Schools was held on 16 December 2011 under the chairmanship of HRDD Minister, NK Pradhan in the conference hall of Directorate of Capacity Building, Khadi Bhawan in the capital.
MP Lok Sabha, PD Rai visited the Institute on 02 February 2012 and interacted with the undergoing trainees of Driver cum Tour Guide, Beautician and Chef/Cook.
Under the chairmanship of Chief Administrator a day long workshop cum coordination meeting of all Centre heads, Master Trainers of all Livelihood school was held on 07 February 2012.

SICB takes livelihood school trainees for hands-on organic farming training to Madhya Pradesh

GANGTOK, 14 Mar: The State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB), Karfectar, South Sikkim has organized an exposure-cum-outreach program for 19 (nineteen) trainees of Martam-Rumtek and 06 (six) trainees of Rhenock Livelihood Schools respectively along with two escort teachers for undergoing one month hands-on training on “Dhabholkar’s Method of Organic Farming” and “Natueco Farming” at Malpani Trust, Krushi Teerth, SHARAN, at Madhya Pradesh.
A press release informs that the trainees will learn sustainable soil making without any market input. They will be trained on various aspects like  Soil Management, Root and Canopy Management, Pruning, Water Management, Treatment of Sick Plants, Importance of Biodiversity, Enrichment of soil by recycling biomass and by establishing a proper energy chain, Harvesting the sun through proper plant canopy management for efficient photosynthesis, Development and maintenance of white root zones of the plant for efficient absorption of nutrients and Minimizing the use of external resources including water. They will be also trained on “How to plan your own farm”.
According to the release the trainees will also be trained in Natueco Farming which has a strong correlation with how we use energy and water as a resource. In an age where farming is considered as a source of income, Natueco brings home the point that such activity needs to be holistic and stem from a larger vision.
Natueco farming and its practice requires one to draw connections of their life with this culture and live in sync with the other elements in their immediate environment. For instance, healthy soil with balanced composition of elements and microbes improves not only the health of the plant but also transcends into the life of people interacting with this environment, the release mentions.
SICB has taken this task as a Pilot Project, to have ‘Visible Productivity'  in the field of Agriculture and other allied sectors, the release adds. The whole program was coordinated and collaborated by Deputy Director (C.P & E), Ranjan Rai under the guidance of Chief Administrator of SICB, SD Dhakal.

Passing out Parade held at Livelihood School for Security Guards at Gyalshing Bermiok Constituency

GANGTOK, 09 Feb: The three months training for the Security Guards was completed on 08 February 2012 under Gyalshing Bermiok Constituency.  The training was conducted with the syllabus under the collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University.  The Security Guards are trained on Basic Security, Industrial, Hotels, Banks, Cash Escort Duty, Multi-national Companies and Embassy Security.  The training also focused on Fire Fighting, First Aid and Hygiene, Communication Manners and Etiquettes.  The course also give emphasis on Security Regulation Act, 2005, IPC, Cr.PC and other miscellaneous laws related with the guarding the places.  The State Institute of Capacity Building has appointed, special English teacher for developing their communication skills in English so that they can deal with the people who cannot understand other Indian Languages.  This will also help the trainees to their placement outside the State.

Earlier, an examination was conducted where 40 students passed successfully; however, the extra classes are being conducted for holding the re-test of eight slow learners.  The certificates were awarded by the Chief Administrator of the Institute Shri S.D. Dhakal in a programme accompanied by the Joint Chief Administrator, Shri K.B. Pradhan.  Shri Dhakal presented a motivational talk to the passing out and new batch of trainees.  Shri Pradhan also presented a talk on discipline and life skills.  The above is as per a press release issued by Deputy Director, IBS Yadav.

MP Urges the Pharma Companies and Power Developers to appoint the trained manpower from the State

GANGTOK, 03 Feb: The State Institute of Capacity Building Karfectar was visited by the Lok Sabha MP, PD Rai on 2 February during which he interacted with staff, officials, trainees and also inspected the damages caused by the earthquake of 18 September. S.D.Dhakal, Chief Administrator welcomed the M.P. A brief meeting was also held in the Mini Conference Hall of SICB.
The M.P in his address highlighted the policy of the State Government and need of skill development for self employment.  He stressed the need to develop the entrepreneurship amongst the trainees so that they can be self employed to mitigate the livelihood options for them.  He suggested the Chief Administrator for initiating actions proactively for the placement of trained Security Personnel including the other trained personal passing out from Livelihood School in Pharma Companies, Power Developers, Universities and other Private Educational Institutions running within the State.
During the course of the meeting, the Chief Administrator, appraised the house about the establishment of the Livelihood Schools of different trades in all territorial constituencies of the State, the challenges being faced, the various activities executed by the Institute as partnership with Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise, Government of India, Lalmati, Guwahati, Assam and the financial status and needs of the Institute.  Similarly, Mr. Ranjan Rai, Deputy Director (Counseling Placement and Examination Cell) presented the placements made so far in various Companies and Institutions within and outside the State.  He informed that nearly 793 of the passed out trainees had found placements.
The MP further suggested for incorporating the integrated Environmental, Moral and Value Aided Components and the Soft Skills in the curriculum of the Livelihood School.  The Chief Administrator, S.D. Dhakal submitted that, these components would be included as soon as possible.  Shri Dhakal also informed that the first phase of data input are in process for Management Information System for ,attendance of Trainees, Trainers, Courses running ,Financial Status ,Stipend payment, Placement and Post Placement records but due to erratic connectivity of telephone lines of BSNL ,the same has been delayed but  it will be made operational by 28th February, 2012. The Hon’ble M.P. advised to consult the Service partners for the better placement and coordination for the benefit of the Sikkimese youth.

Second Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp for Livelihood School trainees concludes

GANGTOK, 08 Jan: The second “Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp” (EAC) for students of different Livelihood Schools under State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB), Karfectar, South Sikkim concluded on 07 January at the Directorate of Capacity Building, Deorali, Gangtok, informs a press release. Barfung and Maneybong-Dentam Livelihood School trainees find on-job-training placements outside Sikkim

GANGTOK, 08 Jan: Twenty two of the 101 trainees on trade held at Barfung and Maneybong-Dentam Livelihood School for Hospitality Management running under the aegis of State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB) have been placed for on-job-training at different places, informs an SICB release.  

The training concluded in December 2011 and 9 trainees have been placed at Shiv Vilash Resort, while 13 of them are placed at Hotel Gold Palace, Jaipur.  

Agri Deptt hands over work orders for sanctions cleared during CM’s village to village tour

GANGTOK, 19 Dec [IPR]: In a function organized by the Department of Food Security & Agriculture Development Department/ Horticulture Cash Crop Development Department (FS&ADD/HCCDD) at the State Institute of Capacity Building premises at Karfectar, the department distributed various sanction orders/ work orders approved during the Chief Minister’s village-to-village tour and made payments to the farmers of these districts for completion of water harvesting tank.

State Board of Livelihood School meets to strengthen skill development initiative

GANGTOK, 16 Dec: The second meeting of State Board of Livelihood School was held today at the conference hall of the Directorate of Capacity Building, Khadi Bhavan, Gangtok. The meeting was presided over by Minister of Human Resource Development Department, NK Pradhan, who is also the chairperson of the State Board of Livelihood School.

SICB trained beauticians and therapists find job placements

GANGTOK, 04 Dec: Forty trainees from across the state had undergone nine months Beautician/Spa training at the State Institute of Capacity Building [SICB], Karfectar under the supervision of trained Master Trainer and Assistant Trainers with specialization in diversified sectors of this course.

22 of 47 trainees at Barfung Livelihood School earn placements ahead of course completion

GANGTOK, 02 Dec: A total of 47 participants are undergoing training on trade at the Barfung Livelihood School for Hospitality Management running under the aegis of State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB).
The training will conclude in December, and already 9 of them have been placed at Shiv Vilash Resort, and 13 at Hotel Gold Palace, Jaipur where they will be undergoing Industrial Training for a period of six months, informs a press release issued by SICB, Deputy Director, Dr IBS Yadav.
