Dirty Angels pray at Tharpa Mani Lhakhang on Guru Thrunkar Tshechu

GANGTOK, 06 Aug: Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club [DAMC] visited the Tharpa Mani Lhakhang situated at Tathangchen today on the occassion of Guru Rinpoche Thrunkar Tshechu.
A press release informs that the club headed by its president, Kinchok Tshering also extended financial support for the provision of lunch to all the devotees present. The Tharpa Mani Lhakhang committee is organising an Eye check up camp on 10 August 2014 from 9:30 am onwards and DAMC members will be assisting the Mani Lhakang committee in this initiative, the release mentions.

Christmas Raffle for a smile

GANGTOK, 22 Dec: Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club has this time come up with a charity raffle with an aim not only to make this Christmas a memorable one by drawing the results on this auspicious day with attractive prizes but also with an objective of helping the underprivileged children of Sikkim by organizing a dental programme titled “Sudden Smile” during the month of March, 2014.
A press release informs that the first prize winner of the raffle can choose between a Royal Enfield motorcycle or cash of Rs 1,20,000. A 40-inch Onida television set and 15.6 inch HP laptop are the second and third prizes respectively.
The club has printed a limited number of raffle tickets of which around 500 are left now. Ticket sale will close on 24 December and the draw will be held on 25 December. The winning numbers would also be published in local newspapers.
The club will use the entire profits of the raffle for helping the underprivileged, the release mentions. The club has further appealed to the people of Sikkim to donate clothes, shoes and soft toys.

Dirty Angels to ride smiles to South Sikkim

GANGTOK, 27 Oct: The Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club felicitated former president of the club, Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha for his contributions towards the club in the past and congratulated him on being appointed the general secretary of Sikkim Pradesh Trinamool Congress.
 “We congratulate him for his new post and wish him all the best for future endeavors. We know that he would be an asset to any organization since he has played a positive role in the charity works that DAMC has carried out in the past” said club president, Rinzing Nadikpa at a function held today at the DAMC Club House at Tathangchen. The DAMC members also acknowledged the contribution of Tshering Lepcha in making charitable projects like the "I See You” campaign in Dzongu (North Sikkim).
It was also informed during the felicitation programme that the club has recently initiated a project called "Sudden Smile", a charity of a kind where the club shall be touring to remote areas in South Sikkim with an objective to bring a smile on to people’s faces. The DAMC motorcycle convoy will also be riding with a dentist who will check and treat villagers along the way. It was also informed that the club has done lot of charity work till now and will continue to do so but it has always been possible with the help and support of the humble people of Sikkim.
It was also said that to make this year’s charity more successful and interesting the club has decided to hold a raffle on 25 December 2013 and the ticket buyers have the chance to win a brand new 350 Enfield Motorcycle, LCD TV or a Lap top. The club has printed a limited number of tickets and the entire amount collected from the ticket sale will be used for the project ‘Sudden Smile’.

Bikers steam up momos for kids at Lepcha Cottage

GANGTOK, 17 May: Twenty-five members of the Dirty Angel Motorcycle Club (DAMC) prepared around 3,000 momos for the 150 students at Lepcha Cottage here at Chandmari yesterday. This was their State Day treat for the kids at Padmashree Nekung Kipu T Lepcha’s hostel.
In preparation for the treat, DAMC purchased 30 kg of beef, 15 kg flour, 15 kg of onion, 5 kg of bones for soup, 1 kg of cabbage and half a kilo of cottage cheese to make both vegetable and non-veg momos for the children. DAMC titled this event as, “Conquering Momoland”.
“They came here early in the morning with all the stuff to make momos which is my favorite dish and we hardly get momos here because it takes so much to make momos for the more than 100 children here,” said one of the children.
“Momo is our ethnic food and it is time consuming to prepare so we all decided to spend our State Day holiday making momos for children at Lepcha Cottage,” said DAMC president Rinzing Dorjee Ladipa. “On learning of our initiative, not only DAMC members but even our wives, girl friends and relatives came here to help us,” he added.
Miss Kipu Lepcha is the founder of Lepcha Cottage who is also the winner of Padmasree award. DAMC started their work at 6 am and ended by 2 pm. Apart from sweets they also distributed sweets to all the children. Dirty Angels ride up to help 8-year-old suffering from haemophilia

GANGTOK, 21 Dec: Dirty Angels Motor Cycle Club [DAMCC] of Gangtok has extended financial support to an 8-year-old suffering from a blood deficiency disease and undergoing treatment at the Central Referral Hospital, 5th Mile, Tadong.
The father of the child, Bhim Bahadur Rai had made a public appeal seeking financial support for his son’s treatment.
Mr Rai’s family hails from Khamdong Ben in East Sikkim and the child was suffering from Haemophilia, a blood deficiency disease. STMN hospital referred the case to CRH after detecting bleeding in the brain due to haemophilia. The child has been undergoing treatment since 10 December.
Doctors at Manipal Hospital while speaking to NOW!, informed that the 8-year-old boy was in a serious condition and the first line of treatment was given immediately when his blood platelet count (Factor 8) was recorded below 10 percent. The platelet count has since increased to 76 percent. The bleeding was stopped by giving him cryoprecipitate [a frozen blood product prepared from plasma] and is now stable.
The treatment of this disease is very expensive, since the medicine is not available in Sikkim or Siliguri. The Haemophilia Society in Siliguri has to order the medicine from New Delhi which costs around Rs 8,000 per 250 ml and Mr Rai’s family could not afford such high costs.
Doctors in Manipal have said that it is a life long treatment and the boy would need the medicines throughout his life.
DAMCC president, Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha told reporters that they came to know of the boy from the local cable television and have come forward to support him for his initial treatment. Members of the club managed to collect Rs. 30,000 and handed over the amount to Mr Rai and appealed to other social and individual organisations to come forward to save the young child’s life.
