9 arrested on charges of rioting in South Sikkim


GANGTOK, 11 Oct: Stray incidents of threats and intimidation continue with the panchayat elections season on. The Namchi police arrested a total of 9 persons on 10 October and later released them on bail.
The charges against them, all purported to be supporters of dissident SDF leader, PS Tamang, are of wrongful confinement, rioting and threatening a resident of Namthang Bazaar. As per police records, the complainant, SB Tamang was abused and threatened by the group at around 7 PM on 10 October.
The group had come into the bazaar shouting slogans. They were all rounded up by the police and sent for medical examination according to which they had consumed alcohol but were not intoxicated.

Rioting charges framed against 12 booked for stone-pelting SDF supporters at Soreong

GANGTOK, 07 Sept: West Sikkim was disturbed following the savage assault by three unidentified persons on Dr. Subash Tamang of the Dentam Public Health Centre. However, with the district police on high alert and putting in every effort to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control, normalcy returned to the district today and no untoward incidents were reported. Also today, the West District police arrested 12 persons on charges of rioting, unlawful assembly and mischief with the intent to cause damage. The 12 are alleged to be involved in the stone pelting incident reported from Soreong last evening in which SDF supporters returning from an SDF rally were injured.
