SSB deliberates its role in “Invigorating Indo-Nepal Relations”

GANGTOK, 18 June: A seminar on the theme “Role of SSB in Invigorating Indo-Nepal Relations” in collaboration with media persons was organised by 19th Bn SSB Gangtok (Sikkim) on 17 June at Uttarey, West Sikkim.
Zilla Panchayat member, Jambu Sherpa attended the programme as chief guest and Deputy Commandant, 19th Bn, Prafull Kumar was the guest of honour. The programme was also attended by Asstt. Commandant, 19th Bn, Giriraj Singh Bisht, Asstt.Commandant, 19th Bn, Navin Kumar Saha, SI/GD Mata Ram and SI/GD Ajay Singh and Coy. personnel. Media persons and panchayat members were also present.
The main objective of the seminar was to create better understanding between SSB and media persons on Indo-Nepal Border and to inform about the various facilities provided by SSB to the people living along the border and various developmental and social activities of SSB with the border population, informs a press release.
Deputy Commandant, 19th Bn SSB Gangtok, Prafull Kumar spoke about SSB's origin and objectives. He emphasized on the role of media in enhancing the relationship between both the countries.
"Earlier, SSB focused on National Integration programmes and later took over charge of guarding Indo-Nepal border. In both the cases SSB never shirked from its responsibilities, and always tried to contribute towards the development of the society by providing vocational training for making people self reliant, helping people in emergencies, so on and so forth", said Mr Kumar.
The seminar was also addressed by Asstt. Commandant, 19th Bn SSB Gangtok, Giriraj Singh Bisht. He informed the media and dignitaries about the developmental works being carried out in different parts of Sikkim and far flung border areas by SSB.
A field visit was also conducted at Uttarey where 19th Bn SSB recently constructed one public toilet and bathroom shed which was handed over to the Maneybong Sopakha Gram Panchayat Unit, West Sikkim on 02 February by 19th Bn SSB Gangtok, the release informs.
After the seminar, a tree plantation drive was also conducted where all media persons, dignitaries and SSB officers and other personnel took part. Mr Kumar further spoke on Paryavaran Mahotsav and its importanc3e. He further informed that SSB is planning other activities as well in the coming days.
The seminar concluded with the presentation of mementos to the media persons and dignitaries.

SSB lends a helping hand at Uttarey

GANGTOK, 23 Jan: 19th Battalion Sashastra Seema Bal distributed various items to the local residents at Uttarey in West Sikkim on Wednesday.
A press release informs that during the programme organized at Government Primary School Uttarey, SSB distributed 9 cycle mounted organic pesticide spraying machines and 14 sets of traditional dress [Bhutia dress] to the local stakeholders of Uttarey and it’s surrounding villages.
Zilla Panchayat Member, Uttarey, Jhamu Sherpa was present as the chief guest of the programme who appreciated the work being carried out by SSB in such far-flung areas of Sikkim, it is informed.
The items were distributed to Gombadara Self Help Group Uttarey, Rose Mary Pulch Club lower Begha, Sangam Sanstha Sanku lower Begha, Gombadara Samaj Uttarey, Simphok Farmers Club Uttarey bazaar, Thomkei Club Uttarey, Sopaka Samaj Sopaka, Intake Self Help Group and Lingey Sopaka Samaj.
Assistant Commandant, Giriraj Singh Bisht and Assistant Commandant, Navin Kumar Sah of 19th Bn SSB Gangtok organised the said programme, the release adds.

SSB organises ‘Samajik Chetna Abhiyan’ in West Sikkim

GANGTOK, 30 Sept: Sashastra Seema Bal [SSB], Sikkim Area, Sector Hqrs Gangtok, began a five-day ‘Samajik Chetna Abhiyan’ [social awareness programme] on 28 September at Okhrey, West Sikkim.
The programme is aimed at community participation for border management and developing coordination & rapport with people in the border areas for better public-Police relationship, an official press release explains. The programme was formally inaugurated by West Zilla Adhakshya Devika Subba.
The inaugural function was attended by DIG, SSB, Sector Hqrs. Gangtok, Sanjeev Sharma, Presidents, Secretaries and Members of various GPUs, Principals/Headmasters and Teachers from various schools and a large gathering of locals from Okhrey and nearby villages, besides a host of SSB officers.
Area Organiser, SSB, Sikkim Area, SK Sood highlighted the aims and objectives of ‘Samajik Chetna Abhiyan’ and informed about various activities and programmes to be held during the five days like Exhibitions, Sports and Games, Healthy Baby Show, Sit & Draw competition, Patriotic Song Singing competition, Elocution Contest, Inter-School Quiz Contest, Football Tournament, Musical Chair for Ladies, Tug-of-War, Cultural Programme and Medical/Vetinerary Civic Action to be organised at Okhrey, Ribdi, Bharang, Piureytar, Chengbagaon, Tikpur, Fambong villages  etc.
Sanjeev Sharma [DIG, SSB, Sikkim Sector] while impressing upon the need of community participation for ensuring better border management and coordination with people in the border areas also apprised about some forthcoming community development programmes that are in the offing for the benefit of the locals.
The chief guest, Ms Subba expressed her happiness over the initiatives taken by SSB in carrying out people-oriented welfare activities in this part of West District. She also impressed upon the gathering and various government agencies to work in tandem with SSB to reap the full benefits of various community development and capacity building activities undertaken by SSB under their community welfare programmes. She also assured of full cooperation from various government departments and agencies in carrying out such programmes in remote parts of border areas.
Secretary, Okhrey-GPU, Lakpa Sherpa also thanked SSB for its continued support and coordination in the border villages and also assured full cooperation of Panchayat units in people orientated welfare activities.
Sukanta Halder [Sub Area Organiser, SSB, Sombaria Sub Area] informed that a sports tournament for promotion of Rural Sports will also be conducted by SSB from 30 September to 02 October and sports equipment will be distributed to the participants/schools and local clubs.
School children from various schools presented charming folk-songs and dances during the inaugural function. Various sports and games were also conducted for school children. Medical and Vetinerary Team of SSB organised camp and distributed medicines free of cost.
The release informs that the valedictory function of “Samajik Chetna Abhiyan” will be held on 02 October. Area MLA, Daramdin Constituency, Tenzi Sherpa is scheduled to attend the function as the chief guest. Prizes and certificates will be given to the winners of various competitions and other participants during the valedictory function.
