Taekwondo team returns with 6 medals from Malaysia

GANGTOK, 17 Aug: Sikkim's Taekwondo team has returned with six medals from the 8th CK Malaysia Classic International Taekwondo championship. The tournament was held at Stadium Malawati, Shahalam, Malaysia from 08-10 August.
As per a press release, the Sikkim team won two gold, one silver and three bronze medals. Trilok Subba won a gold medal in the Poomsae pair event and silver medal in the 1st Master Individual poomsae event. Sneeha Pradhan from Namchi also won gold in sub-junior Kheorugi event.
Nugnandini Chhetri from TN Academy Gangtok, Priyadarshini Jyoti Bania from TN Academy Gangtok and Adwayti Subba from MCM Dojang Gangtok won a bronze medal in the sub-junior Poomsae team event.
The president and members of Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association [SATA] have congratulated them on their achievement.

Sikkim martial artist bags gold at North Ireland Poomsae championship


GANGTOK, 26 June: Trilok Subba, a 6th Dan black belt of the Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association [SATA], has won the gold medal in the Northern Ireland International Taekwondo Poomsae Championship. 
The championship was held on 23 June at the international badminton hall, Lisbon, Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK.
A press release informs that Mr Subba won the gold medal in the second senior team event. He won the bronze medal in the second senior pairs event where his partner was Angie Belley of Scotland. He won the silver medal in the first master individual event where he lost to Master Glean Cowvert of Ireland by a small margin.
Mr Subba reached Belfast on 18 June and he attended the rigorous training at Quen's University till 22 June. According to the release, Mr Subba said, "I am very happy to win the gold medal in this big event for Sikkim as well as for my country. It is all due to the divine grace of Sri Prannath (Sri Rajji). I would like to take this opportunity to thank my well wishers as well."
There were 300 participants from 18 countries in the championship. All the members of SATA congratulate him for his success, the release adds.

Martial artist Ugen Gurung to undergo two-week training in Seoul


IN PREPARATION FOR THE UPCOMING 1ST JUNIOR AND 2ND SENIOR ASIAN CHAMP
GANGTOK, 16 April: Ugen Gurung of Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association [SATA] is among five martial artists from the country to be sponsored by the Taekwondo Federation of India [TFI] to undergo a two-week training at Seoul, South Korea in preparation for the upcoming 1st Junior and 2nd Senior Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championship scheduled to be held at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam on 04 and 05 May.
Four martial artists from Sikkim had qualified in the 30-member Indian team to represent the country in the championship but only Ugen was able to get the TFI sponsorship for the coaching camp. Other three were Trilok Subba, Rajen Subba and Sabitri Pradhan wherein it is confirmed that Ms Pradhan will participate in the championship and is undergoing a coaching camp under SATA chief coach, Trilok Subba at MCM Dozang at White Hall Complex. Ugen is leaving tomorrow for his coaching camp at Seoul, while Ms Pradhan will go later along with the Indian contingent to the championship at Vietnam.
In a small function held at MCM Dozang this afternoon, SATA members expressed their best wishes to Ugen Gurung and Sabitri Pradhan.
The Chief Coach said that Ugen and Ms Pradhan both are confident and outstanding martial artists who have already played in the national and international championships winning medals and bringing laurel. Ms Pradhan said that to represent the country in the Asian championship was her target and she hopes to win medals and laurel for the country. She encouraged her juniors to continue with their hardwork and training to achieve their goals in the future.
18-year-old Ugen stated that he will be taking part in the Asian championship for the first time and it is also his first time participating in the senior category. He expressed his full confidence to give his best in the championship by making full use of his Seoul training. He gave credit to support from his family, coach and others for his achievements till date.

SATA wins 2 bronze medals at Senior Nationals


GANGTOK, 22 Feb: Two senior members of the Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association (SATA) team have returned with two bronze medals from the recently concluded 30th Senior National Taekwondo championship which was held from 15 to 17 Feb at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
A press release informs that Suman Tamang (I.R.B) won the bronze medal defeating Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, J & K but lost to SSB in the semi final. While, Benuka Manger from Namchi SAI defeated Bihar and J & K but lost to Madhya Pradesh in the semi final.
President, YB Thapa and all the members of Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association have congratulated them for their achievements, the release adds.

Sikkim Taekwondo Kheorugi team for Nationals Champ selected


GANGTOK, 07 Feb: Sikkim Taekwondo Kheorugi team selection for Senior National Taekwondo Championship-2012 was conducted by Sikkim mateur Taekwondo Associaton(SATA) officials Trilok Subba,6th.Dan,Dawa Tamang,3rd.Dan,Rupen Pradhan,3rd.Dan,Sanjay Subba,1st.Dan and Bijay Gurung,1st.Dan at Palzor Indoor Stadium, Gangtok on 5th.Feb.2012.
The players from all over Sikkim participated for both male & female weight categories. The names of the selected players in the Womens’ category who will represent the state at the Senior National Taekwondo Championships are Sabina Sundas, Naksum Bhutia, Kunjang Ongmu Bhutia, Tshering Ongmu Bhutia, Pempa Dolma Tamang and Benuka Manger.
Among the boys the selected players are Phurba Sherpa, Unesh Tamang, Suman Tamang, Dipen Rai, Ratan Baraily & Ganesh Rai.
The SATA has appointed Dawa Tamang and Bijay Gurung as team coach and Rinchen Gyatso Kazi and Sanjay Subba as team manager. The team will leave on 10.Feb.2012 for Delhi and the championship is scheduled to be held at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi from 15 February to 17 February 2012.

Martial artist Trilok Subba felicitated at Darjeeling Tea & Tourism fest


GANGTOK, 08 Jan: 6th Dan Black Belt and International martial artist from Sikkim, Trilok Subba was felicitated at the Darjeeling Tea & Tourism festival at Bhanu Bhawan, Darjeeling on 04.Jan.

MCM wins Inter-Dojang Taekwondo championship

GANGTOK, 17 Nov: MCM Dojang [White Hall complex] emerged champions of the 3rd edition of the state-level Inter-Dojang Taekwondo Poomsae Championship held at Paljor Stadium today, with Tashi Namgyal Academy Dojang lifting the runners-up trophy.

41 martial artists take Taekwondo Black Dan exam

GANGTOK, 18 Aug: Forty-one martial artists appeared for the Black Belt Dan Promotion Examination conducted by the Taekwondo Federation of India [TFI] under the authority of the World Taekwondo Headquarter Kukkiwon [Korea] at White Hall today.
Out of the 41, Ugen Gurung and Pradeep Mukhia appeared for the 3rd Dan black-belt, 9 for 2nd Dan and rest, 30 took the examination for 1st Dan black belt.

Central Dojang emerges champion at State Jr Taekwondo Kheorugi tourney

GANGTOK, 03 Aug: Central Dojang [Paljor Stadium] has emerged the champion, leaving MCM Dojang [White Hall] on the second place of the 14th State Junior Taekwondo Kheorugi Championship – 2011 held today here at Paljor Stadium gymnasium hall.
Gold medalists in different weight categories have automatically earned the chance to represent Sikkim in the forthcoming Junior Nationals Taekwondo Kheorugi Championship scheduled to be held in Ranchi, Jharkhand, later this year.

17-year-old Ugen leaves to represent country at Taekwondo tourney in Russia

GANGTOK, 24 July: Ugen Gurung of the Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association left today to represent India at the 6th World Taekwondo Poomsea Championship scheduled to be held at Vladivsadtok in Russia from 29 to 31 July.
Ugen is part of the 5-member Indian team and will be competing in the junior individual category. A total of 192 countries are taking part in the championship.17-year-old Ugen is studying in class XII at Holy Cross School here.

Trilok Subba bags gold in Malaysia

GANGTOK, 18 July: Sikkim’s Trilok Subba has won the gold medal in the 6th CK Classic Malaysian Open International Championship in the first master Taekwondo poomsae category, informs a press release. Mr Subba was the lone gold medallist of the 11-member Indian contingent.
The tournament was organized by the Malaysia Taekwando Federation from 15 to 18 July. The silver medal went to Aday Margulan of Kazakhstan and bronze was won by Karuna Rathna of Sri Lanka, the release informs.

SATA trains martial artists on latest Poomsae techniques

GANGTOK, 20 March: Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association (SATA) organised a 2-day special coaching camp on the latest Taekwondo Poomsae techniques at the MCM Dojang at White Hall Complex here. The camp, held over the weekend on 19 and 20 March, was taken by around 30 martial artists representing the different dojangs of East District, a SATA press release informs.
