Hee-Gyathang GPU notifies ban on alcohol

MANGAN, 22 Nov: Hee-Gyathang GPU under Dzongu constituency which has 6 wards issued an official notification making the GPU the first alcohol free GPU in North district on 20 November. Power Minister and area MLA, Sonam Gyatso Lepcha, was present as the chief guest while DC [North], CP Dhakal, was the guest of honor.
Panchayat President, SU Lepcha, in his address informed about the revenue generation and total number of three notifications approved by the Gram Sabha. As per resolution No. 06, Dated 30.10.2013, Hee-Gyathang Gram Panchayat Unit has restricted/ prohibited the use of ‘Cane and Caneshoot’ notified by the Gram Sabha, Ref no 731/ HGGPU/LD/N.
Another notification Ref no. 731/HGGPU/LD/N, vide resolution No. 06/ Dated 30.10.2013 Hee-Gyathang GP has fixed service charge including Bank Receipt chargeable under single window system for making documents available to the public.
And Gram Sabha vide resolution No. 06, Dated 30.10.2013, Hee-Gyathang Gram Panchayat Unit notification Ref no. 732/HGGPU/LD/N, has fixed the taxes and rates to be delivered by the Gram Panchayat.
The Panchayat President also informed the chief guest about the maintenance of Ring Khola stretch and Bringkatam road which is not in a good condition.
Essay competition, painting competition and skit play was also organized on adverse effects of alcohol consumption and related problems.
Ex-zilla member also recited his poems on alcoholism and on the Chief Minister’s leadership for development.
The chief guest in his address congratulated the GPU, Panchayat, teachers and public on the initiative to make the GPU the first alcohol free GPU of North district.  Every GPU should learn and practice the same, he said.
DM North in his address stated that, it is an important day for North district and the State both. Alcohol consumption causes various health problems so this is an important step towards ensuring better health of the general public, he said.
PI Mangan, in his address said that now monitoring and counseling for the public is most important and not only on alcohol but on drug abuse as well. The Police department is always ready to serve the public and all the police check posts and outposts have been directed to check each and every vehicle moving towards Hee-Gyathang so that no one can transport alcohol and other harmful substances to the area.
Up-Adhyaksha (N), in her address said that people should be made aware on the ban on alcohol and it should be promoted in other GPUs of Dzongu too.  She informed that she has received several positive suggestions through social networking sites and other media from different parts of the State and this is a very positive step towards developing Dzongu.

Hee-Gyathang declared ‘alcohol-free’ GPU

MANGAN, 07 Nov: Gram Sabha of Hee-Gyathang GPU was held on 30 October at Hee-Gyathang Senior Secondary School auditorium which was chaired by Zilla Adhakshya North, Anguli Lepcha. The sabha was presided over by Panchayat President Samroo Ugen Lepcha.
The main agenda of the Sabha was to declare the Hee-Gyathang GPU as an alcohol-free GPU and the panchayats issued a notification on the same.
Other agendas discussed and passed during the Sabha were issue of work permit to non-local labourers, collection of various taxes, inclusion of names of those left out during socio-economic census, 2010. Awarding of meritorious award to class VIII topper of the GPU, preservation of cane, to felicitate Dr. Sonam Rinchen, Scientific Officer DST Gangtok, and farewell to Mingma Tshering Lepcha, retired ACF.

Almuni constructs library for Hee-Yangthang School

GANGTOK, 15 Sept: A library cum office room at Hee-Yangthang Senior Secondary School, West Sikkim was inaugurated by area MLA Chandra Maya Subba on 13 September. The Rs, 7 lakh library building was constructed by the alumni association of the school, a press release informs.
On the day, Principal Pradip Gurung presented a brief report of the school which was followed by the Dhoj Ambali Subba Award ceremony. The award was instituted in 2008 by HRDD Director, MP Subba and his family. This year the award was presented to two meritorious students, Urmila Thatal and Ram Kumar Chettri, the release mentions.
 The school also felicitated Mr Subba for his consistent support to the school and service to the society. In his address, Mr Subba highlighted the aims and objectives of the alumni association and its achievements. He also spoke on the role of teachers, senior citizens and intellectuals in shaping the future of the youth.
Former Secretary and member of the alumni association, T.R Poudyal also addressed the gathering regarding the alumni association, contribution by its members and assured that more works would be carried out in the coming days.
In her address, the chief guest, area MLA, Ms Subba appreciated the work of the association and said that this association has set an example by contributing towards the construction of an entire building for the school. She also assured of all possible support to the association and the school.
R.M.S.A building and assembly yard were also inaugurated on the day.
The programme was attended by members of the alumni association; SP Subba [Retd.Director Industries] , HP Pradhan [Retd.C.C.F.], RK Pradhan [Retd.SE] , BB Pradhan [Secretary} , SB Subba [Director Accounts], DS Kunwar [Joint Commissioner], CS Subba [A.E.O} amongst others.

Inspection reveals impending disaster at Bringbong

GANGTOK, 18 July: The District Collector [North] accompanied by the Passingdang BDO along with the concerned Assistant Engineer and other officials of the district level Disaster Management team conducted a joint inspection of a spot near Hee-Gyathang where a landslide had occurred recently.
A press release informs that during the inspection conducted on 17 July, it was observed that owing to last year’s earthquake, visible cracks had developed on a land mass along the DSM road and a heavy boulder was hanging precariously on the hill above the Bringbong area. This poses a threat to the government Primary School and seven houses located directly below it, the release adds.
On inspection, it was felt that immediate action needs to be taken before a disaster occurs and the public, panchayat and DC North assured full cooperation for this purpose.
Taking all this into account, the BDO concerned has alerted the general public of Bringbong and asked them to take safety measures. The concerned officials of the GREF have also been intimated to take up restoration of the disrupted road connectivity, the release further mentions.
