The Janta beams at Janta Mela

GANGTOK, 04 Feb [IPR]: Three educated unemployed youth who had undergone 3 months motor (driving) training at the State Institute of Capacity Building Karfectar received their vehicle loan under SIDICO today during the Gram Swaraj Mela.

Chandrika Chettri of Chisopani is now a proud owner of a Sumo Gold vehicle which she will be using as a taxi. She expressed her gratitude to the Chief Minister and the state government for giving opportunities like this to women and empowering them.

Santosh Limboo of Kholaghari will be using his new Bolero for tourism purposes.

As a youth, he expressed his immense gratitude to the Chief Minister and the State Government for giving him this benefit which will help him to become self reliant.

Subit Narayan Chettri of Lower Mamley, who got a Sumo Gold, also conveyed his deepest gratitude to the Chief Minister and the State Government for this opportunity to become independent and said that he was able to fulfill his dream because of them. He said that he will be using the vehicle as a tourist vehicle.

Saroj Rai of Nandugaon says he will be also using his Hyundai Eon as a taxi. He also conveyed utmost gratitude to the Chief Minister and the State Government for this opportunity. 

Their unanimous message to both educated and uneducated unemployed youth of Sikkim - “Please avail of the facilities provided by the state government to become self reliant and proud owners and support the government in fulfilling its aim to make Sikkim a Self Reliant State.”

And then there are the ladies who received Induction Cooking Stove along with utensils.

Sabitri Chettri of Dalep Temi Namphing and Manita Tamang of Namthang Rateypani received induction stoves. They said that they were both happy to receive this benefit and thanked the CM and State Government. Mrs Chettri said that she would now stay away from the ‘chullah’ and use the induction stove after learning how to use it from her daughter.

Under Land Bank Scheme there were 100 beneficiaries for 2013-2014 wherein two persons received their tokens today.

GANGTOK, 27 Jan: The Janta Mela for the four districts is all set to begin next week, starting from the East District on 02 February in Gangtok, moving on 04 February to Namchi, then on 06 February for West District at Gyalshing and on 08 February in the North District in Mangan, informed the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Rural Management & Development Department, DR Nepal, while speaking to NOW! today. And this year, the Janta Mela is being observed under the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, he added.
There are three major schemes under the Janta Mela to be released to beneficiaries this year, one is the induction stove, the other is GCI sheets and the third is house upgradation scheme. The schemes are for beneficiaries from all the 32 constituencies and the list of beneficiaries has been prepared by the Panchayats.
200 people will receive GCI sheets, 200 people will receive the house upgradation scheme, while 500 beneficiaries will be given the induction stoves from each constituency, he stated.
There will also be participation of other departments in the Janta Mela, such as Social Justice [pension], Animal Husbandry [cows, goats, pigs] and SIDICO for disbursement of loans to the unemployed for self employment, he added.
This year, the Janta Mela has two major missions as spelled out by the State government, one is the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan and the other is the Chief Minister Kutcha House Free Mission. Both are decentralized schemes so the Panchayats have been given powers to identify the beneficiaries from their areas, he said and added that because of these two missions the number of beneficiaries may increase further. The Janta Mela is being held under the Gram Swaraj Abhiyan so that the beneficiaries come from the Gram and get the maximum benefits from the schemes, he explained.
Speaking on the total amount of funds utilized by the department for the Janta Mela, he stated that the total amount is yet to be calculated as there were still some places in the districts from where the list of beneficiaries has not reached the department. The total amount of money utilized for the Mela will be compiled in the next two to three days, he added.

Janta Mela to begin 18 May

GANGTOK, 14 May: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling chaired a meeting of SDF legislators last evening at Mintokgang and discussed various issues including that of empowerment of Local Development Committee at every gram Panchayat unit.
The legislatures meet also agreed to hold the Janta Mela series over 42 days in three phases across Sikkim starting 18 May. The itinerary, it is informed, will be chalked out by the Rural Management & Development Department in consultation with the Chief Minister’s Office.
It is informed that the post of the Panchayat Secretary will be upgraded to General Secretary of Gram Panchayat and the assigned tasks of Panchayat secretary be handed over to the Panchayat Assistants [PA] with the Panchayat Secretary supervising the PAs.
Meanwhile, an SDF press release informs that the legislature meet also too various decisions including those to strengthen the party in rural areas and at the block level.
The legislature meet also unanimously decided to construct new Gram Prasashan Kendras at all recently upgraded Gram Panchayats. The meeting has also endorsed PMGSY roads to the tune of Rs. 112 crore at Paney-Phensung, Chungthang, Upper Rongong, Kabi-Chungthok in North Sikkim, Upper-Lower Syari, Lingdum, Tumlabong, Dikchu-Seley, Chuba-Namrang, Rabdang-Jilang, Chanka Gonpa, East Pandam, Rorathang-Kaputhang, Gairi-goan-Sudunglakha, Dalapchand-Aritar in the east district, Rangbul-Maniram, Phungrong-Ruchung, Upper Poklok-Borung, Mangbrung, Lingding in South district and Nadang-Bhirkuna Singdrong, Saprenagi, in West.
