Woman dies after consuming ‘unknown substances’

GANGTOK, 06 Dec: A woman from Khaniserbong under Nayabazaar police station succumbed after consuming ‘unknown substances’ as reported by the Nayabazaar police. The deceased, Dik Maya Manger, 33, was admitted to the Namchi hospital on 05 December at around 5 PM with the complaint of having consumed some unknown substance. She succumbed the same day. Medical staff have requisitioned for preservation of the viscera of the deceased for analysis.

Cold and fall claim two lives

GANGTOK, 06 March: Two unnatural deaths have been reported from different parts of Gangtok in the past 24 hours. In the first instance, one Appu Tamang, a 22 year old resident of Jorbungalow, Darjeeling, and presently residing at Arithang died of suspected hypothermia on the night of 04 March. His dead body was found in the wee hours of 05 March along NH 31 A near Unique Sweets and taken to the STNM hospital. The autopsy has confirmed death due to hypothermia. The deceased was employed as a salesman at a showroom on MG Marg. As per police records, he had gone to a friend’s place at Sisa Golai and reportedly left for home at around 11 in the night but never made it home to Arithang.
In another incident, one Bishal Lama, 26, a resident of Pangthang, is suspected to have succumbed to injuries sustained in a fall. His body was found lying in Lower Syari about 300 to 400 feet below the new road cutting.

Missing boy found dead after a week

GANGTOK, 02 Feb: The body of a boy missing for the past 8 days was found near the banks of the River Teesta under Temi police jurisdiction, South Sikkim on 01 February. As per reports the deceased, Krishna Chettri, a handy boy had gone down to the river quarry on 24 January and had been missing since then. His body was found floating in the river on 1 February and a case has been registered at the Temi police station.

Two teenaged cousins commit suicide together, 3 more UD cases reported

GANGTOK, 30 Nov: Five Unnatural Deaths [UD] were reported from across the State on 29 November, including that of two teenaged girls who committed suicide together by hanging from the same tree.

Two teens lost to suicide in one day

GANGTOK, 01 Sept: A 19-year-old boy, a resident of Lower Rangang, is reported to have committed suicide by hanging. As per police reports, the boy had gone to visit his grandfather at Mazua Gaon, Upper Rangang, on 30 August. The next morning, when the grandfather went to the cowshed, he discovered that his grandson had committed suicide by hanging.
In another incident, an 18-year-old domestic help committed suicide, also by hanging on 31 August. The victim, a resident of Ghatiya Tea Estate of district Jalpaiguri, was working as a domestic help in a house in Lower Sumin in East Sikkim for the last two years.

2 suicides and one death by electrocution

CAUSING DEATH BY NEGLIGENCE CHARGES BROUGHT UP AGAINST IPCA LABGANGTOK, 26 Aug: Two suicides and one death by electrocution were reported from around the State yesterday.
In the first incident, a 19-year-old boy studying at Upper Yangyang School in South Sikkim committed suicide by hanging. According to his father, on 24 August, his son returned from school, had dinner with the family and then went to sleep in the kitchen. The next day, when his elder brother went to collect fodder from the forest above the house, he discovered that his brother had committed suicide by hanging from a tree.
In another incident, a 45-year-old resident of Lower Martam, West Sikkim, was found hanging inside the bedroom by his son on 25 August. There was no one at home throughout the day. When the son returned home at around 4 p.m. he found the deceased hanging inside the bedroom.

Missing teenager found dead

NAMCHI, 14 Aug: The body of a 17 year-old student was found in the bushes near Vidyasagar School Singithang, Namchi, South Sikkim around 5 p.m on 11 August. The girl had been missing since the previous evening but family members thought she might have gone to a friend’s place.
When she did not return home the next day, family members began a search and found her body near the school premises. A police team from the Namchi Police station rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem to the Namchi District Hospital.

Boarder dies in her sleep at TNA

GANGTOK, 12 July: A 15 year old boarder at Tashi Namgyal Academy here, died in her sleep last night. The teenager had arrived only last evening to rejoin school after her summer vacations and was found dead when the ayah on duty went to wake her up at 5 a.m. it is informed.
The cause of death has not been ascertained as yet. The teenager’s father, in a press release circulated to newspapers today, has however alleged negligence and demanded detailed investigation into the case.
