NAMCHI, 14 Aug: The body of a 17 year-old student was found in the bushes near Vidyasagar School Singithang, Namchi, South Sikkim around 5 p.m on 11 August. The girl had been missing since the previous evening but family members thought she might have gone to a friend’s place.
When she did not return home the next day, family members began a search and found her body near the school premises. A police team from the Namchi Police station rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem to the Namchi District Hospital.
Police sources inform that no injury marks were found on the body during the initial investigation and the cause of death can only be confirmed after the post-mortem report is released. The deceased was suffering from depression and was on medication, it is informed.
The incident has understandably left the family shocked. The girl was a bright and talented student of Bio-science in class XI at Namchi Girls’ Senior Secondary School. A case has been registered at Namchi Police Station under 174 CrPc as an unnatural death, although family members suspect it might be a case of murder. The case is currently under investigation.
