Forest Deptt felicitates best-performing Green Mission initiatives in South Sikkim

NAMCHI, 17 Aug: The Territorial Division of the Forest Department here undertook a well-received felicitation of the best performing areas under the latest round of Green Mission plantation drives. The felicitation was made special by the fact that it was included as part of the 65th Independence Day celebrations here at Bhaichung Stadium. Forest Department personnel, JFMC members, Panchayats and labourers engaged in areas identified as having undertaken the best Green Mission initiatives were conferred Certificates of Excellence and cash awards.
Ben-Peku Road under Ravangla Territorial Division was awarded as the Best Performing Area under Green Mission 2011, while Namthang- Kabrey Road was adjudged the second best and Tiffin Dara- Samdruptshe Road under Namchi Territorial Division received the third position.
The Ben Namphing JFMC, PWD labourers, Tinkitam Nursery, Guru Padmasambhava Society of Namchi and Panchayats of Namthang were felicitated on the day.
RO (T), Namchi Territorial Division, Tseten Lepcha, informs that the best initiatives were judged on the basis of the quality of the initiative and the number of saplings planted during Green Mission 2011 in the area. The felicitation were introduced to encourage the people to undertake Green Mission plantation drives with even more earnestness, he said.
