GANGTOK, 14 Aug: The girls basketball team of Eklavya Model Residential School [EMRS], Gangyap, West Sikkim, along with their coach, Principal Sidharth Yonzone, welcomed CBSE AEO [Sports], Pushkar Vohra, at Hotel Denzong Inn in Gangtok on 11 August.
Mr. Vohra looks after all the sport related issues at CBSE along with the organizing of the CBSE Cluster, Zone and National games for Indian schools as well as schools from abroad under the CBSE, it is informed.
Mr. Vohra had first met the EMRS basketball team in Chhattisgarh during the National meet in December 2010 and was impressed with the high standard of their game.
He was very touched by the warm welcome of the students and has invited the EMRS basketball team to Delhi in December where he assures to arrange a number of basketball games with the top CBSE schools in Delhi under the coaching of the Indian Basketball Coach, Mr. Hudu.
Over dinner at Hotel Tibet he asked the EMRS Principal to keep up the practice and ensure as much exposure as possible to the talented team.
The EMRS basketball team will again be taking part in the CBSE Regional Cup in Guwahati in November this year. They won the tournament last year. If they qualify, they will be eligible to take part in the Nationals in Madhya Pradesh.
He expressed his joy and delight over the fact that Sikkim schools were starting to take part in the CBSE Cup and also performing well in it. He expressed hope to see the EMRS basketball team do well in the CBSE Nationals this year.
For this, he has invited the EMRS team to Delhi a week or two before the National Meet so that they received adequate and good match practice.
Mr. Vohra is in Sikkim on a family trip and arrived on 11 August and will be leaving on 15 August.
