GANGTOK, 17 Aug: Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee president, Nar Bahadur Bhandari, will be taken to a super-specialty hospital in New Delhi on Thursday for treatment, following health complications he developed since he was taken to jail to serve a one-month prison sentence following his conviction in a corruption case.
Mr Bhandari was admitted into the STNM Hospital the day he began his sentence on 10 August.
Speaking to the media persons today, the Health Secretary, Dr K Bhandari, informed that Mr Bhandari is under the care of a team of doctors, but seeing the nature of complications he has developed, it has been decided to refer him to a super specialty hospital in Delhi for proper treatment.
It is learnt that he will be taken to the Medanta Super Specialty Hospital in Gurgaon.
He is scheduled to leave Thursday morning at around 9:30 a.m. from STNM Hospital accompanied by a physician.
The decision to refer the 71-year-old Mr Bhandari for treatment outside Sikkim was taken by the State Medical Board and the legal formalities cleared by the jail authorities and the go-head communicated today, it is learnt.
