Krishi Vigyan Kendra convenes annual meeting

GANGTOK, 09 May: Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s Annual Meeting was conducted at the conference hall of Food Security and Agriculture Development Department, here at Krishi Bhawan on 08 May. The meeting was chaired by Director, Agriculture, Ashal Thapa.
A press release informs that NT Bhutia [KVK Research] conducted the meeting while it was attended by PK Dewan [Additional Director, Field Crops], Passang Tamang [SE, Engineering Cell], Tshering Thendup [Programme Coordinator, North], Dr. Laxuman Sharma [Programme Coordinator, West], Tilak Gajmer [Programme Coordinator, South] along with Subject Matter Specialists [SMS], Farm Managers and Accountants of KVKs.
The Programme Coordinators [PCs] from three KVKs (North, South and West) presented their reports through Power Point Presentation. The presentation covered the present status of the KVKs vis-a-vis Staff Strength, Field Activities, Training Programmes and the progress made by the KVKs in the districts.
After the presentation made by the three PCs of the district KVKs, the Director Agriculture, had an interaction with the Programme Coordinators and Subject Matter Specialists. During the interaction the SMSes expressed their satisfaction on working for the farming community of the state, the release mentions.
Director Agriculture, Ashal Thapa, in his speech expressed his happiness over the success stories presented in the meeting. He also emphasized on having a Jal Kund, (Dugout Pond ) in all the three KVKs.  To go organic, continuous irrigation and manure is imperative so a water resource in the farm of KVKs for the crops is necessary, he added.
Mr Thapa further said that KVK farms should be an example for the farmers of the area and people should be encouraged by the set-up of the farms of the department. He also stated that there should be proper documentation of all the activities of the KVKs.

Nandugaon School alumni meets

NAMCHI, 23 Sept:  The Alumni Association of Nandugaon School met for its first annual meeting at the School on 18 September. The meeting was chaired by Bishnu Prasad Chettri, a senior alumni member.
The alumni association’s president, Mohan Chettri, while addressing the meeting suggested that students passing out from the school be automatically included as members of the alumni association. This, he highlighted, would involve them in future activities of the school and also provide them an opportunity to contribute positively to the School they have been a part of for so many years.
The alumni association of Nandugaon School was formed on 13 October last year with Mohan Chettri as president; CP Rai [vice-president]; BK Sharma [secretary]; Mahindra Chettri [joint secretry]; Kumar Singh Sunwar [treasurer]; Lila Kumar Chettri [publicity secretary]; Din Nath Sharma, Bali Rai, Bikash Manger and Bina Chettri [co-coordinators].
In last week’s meeting, the alumni decided to appoint Pramila Rai as treasurer along with Lila Kumar Chettri. The next meeting is scheduled for 27 October.

Renjyong Mutanchi Rong Tarjum forms new executive body


AGM ALSO FORMS BONGTHING ACADEMY COMMITTEE 
MANGAN, 15 April: The Renjyong Mutanchi Rong Tarzum (RMRT) central body, in coordination with RMRT North district, convened the annual general meeting at Mayal Hotel, Pentok, Mangan on 14 April.  The RMRT (N) formed a new executive body cum Bongthing Academy Committee.
The new RMRT committee comprises of Advisors, Chumki Saring of Mangan, TW Lepcha of Sentam, Khamsoom Lepcha of Chungthang and Choden Lepcha of Dzongu.  NT Lepcha as president, Lobzang Lepcha as vice president, Samten Lepcha & Lakching Lepcha as general secretaries, TT Lepcha & Samdup Lepcha as treasurer, Tenzor Lepcha, PT Lepcha & KT Lepcha as joint secretaries and Norden Lepcha, Laymu Lepcha & Kessang Saring as publicity secretaries. For the Boongthing Academy committee, Sonam Rinchen Lepcha, Kacho Lepcha, Namgyal Lepcha, Dr.OT Lepcha, NT Lepcha and Ton Tsh Lepcha have been nominated from all the districts.
The programme was chaired by Zilla Adhyaksha (N), Khamsoom Lepcha, president (RMRT) centre body, SD Lepcha, general secretary, Dr OT Lepcha, president (RMRT) North, NT Lepcha and members.
The president, RMRT (N), in his address spoke on establishing a unique Boongthing school with all language academy facilities which will preserve the Lepcha culture and identity of the community, for which we all have to approach the government, he  said.
The chief guest in his address said that the idea of starting a Boongthing school is very innovative and added that unity amongst all communities is important.
The general secretary, RMRT, centre body in his address said that, the meeting was supposed to be held last year in September but due to the earthquake it could not be possible. The centre body has been working for the progress of the community in coordination with the government but RMRT works have been delayed due to lack of finance, he shared. So now we have to start monthly membership collection drive for our own security and progress, he added. The Government has sanctioned Rs.16 crore for the construction of 'Fat Fuetyok' at Daramdin to preserve historical artefacts of the tribe and a statue of Munsolong is to be constructed in Upper Dzongu has also been sanctioned, he further informed.
The president (RMRT), centre body, said that the Government has already notified the Lepcha tribe as a backward community and defined as a Primitive tribe under 3(54) Parliamentary Affairs/518 on 18 November 2008 but we have never tried out to find out the benefits of the given status and that is our own weakness.
The house also highlighted on Public hearing of Teesta stage IV of NHPC held on 29 March 2012 which did not take into concern the general affected people and area MLA of Dzongu. DM (N) the chairman of the public hearing panel will be approached for conducting another public hearing for the affected public and place full details of the project and R&R plan.
In conclusion, the house also focused on shortage of teachers in Dzongu suggesting that the department should only appoint local candidates as most teachers are appointed from outside the district and after serving 2 to 3 months obtain transfer orders to other districts.

Pendam BGP convenes annual meeting


GANGTOK, 29 Jan: The annual meeting of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh [BGP] Pendam was convened at West Pendam Sakukhani School in East Sikkim on Saturday. The meeting was chaired by BGP Pendam branch president, Surendra Kumar Dhungel and was attended by the executive and other members of BGP.
A BGP press release informs that in his presidential address, Mr Dhungel stated that the main objective of the meeting was to encourage integration and brotherhood for the development of the Gorkha community at the national and state level. He also mentioned about the various activities of Pendam branch for the development of the Gorkha community.
BGP state president, Dr Kamal Gurung stressed that everyone should first be aware of BGP’s national programme for the upliftment of the Gorkha community in order to contribute and support the BGP programmes. He stated that overall development of the community is not possible until there is development from every side. In this regard, Dr Gurung added that for the development of the Sikkim Gorkha society everyone should work sincerely with regard to the language, politics, economic aspects, education, etc.
The meeting was also addressed by former DGP and BGP advisor, CP Giri, BGP state working president, Narayan Bhattarai, BGP general secretary, S Pandey and BGP Pendam secretary, Deepak Kumar Khatiwara.
