GANGTOK, 27 Oct: The prize distribution ceremony of the Open FITA/ Indian Round Archery Championship 2013 was held today here at Tenzing Namgyal Memorial Ground [old Guards Ground]. The two-day championship, organized by Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club [SHSC], was inaugurated by Princess Hope Leezum Namgyal on Saturday.
A total of 42 archers from all four districts had participated in the Indian Round, Recurve Division and Compound Division of the championship.
The final day of the championship was chaired by Sikkim Archery Association vice-president, Dr Ongden Gyatso as the chief guest, who was also accompanied by other executive members of the SAA.
In his valedictory address, the chief guest appreciated the efforts of SHSC for organizing the state-level competition to encourage local archers and for the development of archery in the state. He also encouraged young archers to continue with their game and practice to be successful in coming days.
In Indian Round [Girls], Chung-Chung Bhutia [West] won the gold medal, while Bhim Kumari Subba [SHSC] bagged silver medal and Pooja Chettri [South] won the bronze medal. Likewise, Bikram Rai [South], Robin Subba [South] and Anurag Rai [South] won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively in Indian Round [boys].
In Recurve Division [Men], Pema Ongyal Bhutia [SHSC] bagged gold, Chandradeep Rai [SHSC] won silver and Bhupen Rai [South] won the bronze medal.
In Compound Division [Men], Karma Loday Namgyal [East] won the gold medal, while Gyaltsen Lachungpa [East] and Dorjee Tshering Lepcha [East] bagged silver and bronze medals respectively.
The chief guest and other guests gave away the medals, certificates and cash prizes to the winners.
On the occasion, the SHSC felicitated Palden Wangchuk Bhutia and Pema Wangyal Bhutia of Tathangchen for excelling in their studies, which were received by their parents on their behalf.
