GANGTOK, 30 Oct: The annual sports day at Tadong Government Senior Secondary School is being jointly organised with the SAATHI programme. Scheduled to be held on 01 November at Paljor Stadium, the games began today with open marathon.
SAATHI is a program that seeks to secure every child a bright and healthy future. This is a programme under the Chief Minister’s Youth Empowerment & Self Reliant Mission 2013 (CMYESRM-2013) and it aims to keep present youth and the society away from Drugs guiding them to the right track.
As part of the sports day, an Open Marathon Race was organised today in separate categories for Boys and Girls. The starting point for the marathon was Ridge Park, White Memorial Hall Complex, Gangtok and the finishing point was at Tashi View Point. The Marathon was flagged off by Project Director, SAATHI, Tempo Bhutia.
The release informs that around 200 students from different classes participated in the marathon.
Sherap Zangpo Rai (XII), Mahesh Thapa (VII D), Diwash Rai (XI Arts) stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Boys category while Julie Tamang (XII Arts), Srijana Chettri (IX C), Ganga Chettri (X B) stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Girls category.
Also present were Principal of Tadong Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Doma L. Zimba, Vice Principal, KD Bhutia and school staff. The final concluding event of the sports day, as mentioned earlier, is scheduled to be held at Paljor Stadium on Friday.
