GANGTOK, 28 Oct: Sikkim State Karate Do Association [SSKDA] bagged 16 medals at the “3rd International Karate Championship 2013” held at Kakarvitta, Jhapa, Nepal on 24 to 26 October. The team has returned home with 6 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze medals. The Sikkim team, representing the country at the championship, was led by general secretary for SSKDA, Bidhan Ballav.
A press release issued by SSKDA, informs that, a total of 250 participants from 6 countries Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, including Nepal, had participated in the championship.
The gold medalists are Budha Bir Manger [50kg], Manita Rai [40kg], Neemu Lepcha [61kg], Sushmita Rai [68kg], Hem Kumari Rai [68+kg]. The silver medalists are Diwakar Chettri [25kg], Biswadeep Manger [35kg], Krishna Bahadur Pradhan [60kg], Budha Bir Manger [60kg], and bronze medalists are Chesang Sherpa [25kg], Kursonmit Lepcha [30kg], Dina Rai [50kg].
The championship was organized by the Nepal Shito Ryu Karate Association under the guidance of Nepal Karate Federation, the release informs.
