The final day had Additional District Collector South, Anil Prakash Rai as the chief guest while Deputy Chairman GTA, Darjeeling, Lopsang Lama was the guest of honour.
Addressing the closing ceremony, chief guest Mr. Rai said that this event of NTTA has successfully provided a platform to the budding Table Tennis players of the state. He further appreciated the support of the South district administration to NTTA in organizing this event here in Namchi.
Special guest Mr. Lama said, “Sports is a part of education and this initiative by NTTA of organizing inter school events along with open events has provided an opportunity for the beginners to gather more experience”. He applauded the infrastructural development brought by the ruling government in Sikkim and said that Sikkim has better sports facilities than most of the states in the country.
President Sikkim Veteran's Table Tennis Association (SVTTA), SB Subba while addressing the closing ceremony said, “This event by NTTA has been a great success and I congratulate the organizing committee”. He also assured all possible help from his association to NTTA.
President NTTA, Karma R Bonpo in his closing address said that the association has also gained experience by organizing this tournament and has succeeded in giving a platform to the upcoming players of the state, especially of the rural areas.
Later the chief guest and special guest handed over the trophy, cash prize and certificate to the winners, runners-up and second runners-up.
The Veterans' Men's Double championship was lifted by Bimal Gurung and Dhurba Rai of Gangtok while SB Subba and CB Subba stood second. The third place was shared by Hissey Bhutia/O T Bhutia and Lalit Rai/DK Tamang.
Similarly, in Mixed Doubles Mandira Gurung and Bimal Gurung defeated Prava Limboo and DK Tamang to become the champions.
In Sub Junior Boys’ category, Adarsh Raphel defeated Rigzen Tashi to become the champion. Pravakar Chettri and Bikash Chettri shared the third place.
In Junior Girls’ Singles Prava Limboo of Namchi won the championship while Sweta Rai became the runner-up. Sangay Chezum and Manju Rai shared the third place.
In Junior Boys’ category, Rojal Lepcha of Namchi became the champ while Abishek Lepcha was the runner-up. Anup Gurung and Deepen Lakhey shared the third place.
Veteran Men's Single title went to Bimal Gurung of Gangtok while CS Subba became the runner up. Third place was shared by Dhurba Rai and DK Tamang.
Open Women’s Single title was taken by Prava Limboo of Namchi while Mandira Gurung became the runner-up. The third place was shared Sangay Chezum and Sashi Dong.
The main event of the tournament, Open Men’s Singles saw Kamal Subba of Mangan emerge as the champion. He defeated Asish Tamang of Namchi. Dhurba Rai and CS Subba shared the third place.
New Light Academy Namchi and Namchi Girls Senior Secondary School presented cultural performances on the day.
Also on the occasion Namchi Table Tennis Association felicitated four medalists of Namchi who won medals in the recent state open TT championship 2013. Among them were Prava Limboo, Eva Limboo, Pravakar Chettri and Biplop Chettri. They were presented with a felicitation letter and cash reward of Rs. 2000 each.
