GANGTOK, 27 Oct: The girls’ basketball team of Eklavya Model Residential School, Gangyap, in West Sikkim left for Guwahati on Saturday to participate in the Under-19 CBSE North East Region Championship which will be held from 28 to 30 October. The team is led by Nima Doma Bhutia, who is a two-time recipient of the Chacha Nehru Sports Award.
A press release from the EMRS Principal, S Yonzone informs that the team will be competing with CBSE schools under the NE Region [cluster I]. If the school wins or secure the 1st runners-up place then it will be playing in the Under 19 National Championship scheduled to be held at Agra from the 21 to 26 December.
EMRS has taken part in the same tournament in 2010, 2011 & 2012 and in all three occasions won the championship as well as the 'most disciplined team award'.
The release informs that the EMRS basketball team is being sponsored by Ladakhi Construction and Casino Mahjong for this championship.
