GANGTOK, 27 Oct: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha’s student wing organized a meet here at the party head-office today. The meeting was chaired by the SKM working president, Bharati Sharma and was also attended by former MLA PS Tamang [Golay], an SKM press release informs.
The release states that the meeting was attended by college students from all four districts.
The release states that in her address, Kabita Sharma of Namthang alleged that due of absence of a long term vision, the life of students has been wasted. She further alleged that educated youth from poor families have been denied of government jobs due to nepotism and political interference.
Likewise, another student, Nika Sherpa alleged lack of quality education in schools, inadequate infrastructure at Sikkim University and lack of opportunities in the government service for students up completion of their studies.
In his address, Mr. Tamang assured that SKM will not exploit the emotions and insecurities of students for political gain and said that it was unfortunate that Sikkim still does not have an Education Board and rued that the government has failed to create infrastructures of the university.
On the ad-hoc teachers issue, Mr Tamang alleged that due to wrong policy of the government more than 2000 teachers were facing an uncertain future.
The release also informs that on the occasion 41 persons from different places also joined the SKM party.
