GANGTOK, 24 June: ‘Disha’, a Village Resource Centre, was inaugurated by Lok Sabha MP PD Rai at Lower Samdong in the presence of Gram Vikash Adhikari, Pema Wangchuk and Gram Panchayat Members on 22 June.
Mr Rai spoke on the importance of data management at the village level and need for promotion of the state’s flagship programmes. Mr Wangchuk welcomed the establishment of the Centre which is being done on an experimental basis and assured all possible assistance from the Gram Vikash Kendra, informs a press release.
The Panchayats of Samdong Kambal in turn whole heartedly welcomed the Centre which would work in close coordination with them as its statistical wing.
Mentor of the Centre, Dinesh Bhattarai informed that the Centre would prepare sound and reliable data base of Samdong Kambal GPU, appraise the stakeholders and locals about the progress made by the panchayats periodically, act as a first responder of data, equip panchayats with data from time to time, document progress of state flagship programmes, appraise students about facilities provided by the government, etc.
Mr Bhattarai sought cooperation from all departments operating within Samdong Kambal GPU to furnish data on specific fields so that a centralised data and focal point for data management could be established. Sikkim Himalayan Green Group, a registered voluntary Organisation of Namcheybong and Lower Kambal Village Tourism Development Society is managing the Centre, the release mentions.
