GANGTOK,
26 Jun: A case under section 376 [punishment for rape] of the Indian
Penal Code read with Section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences
Act, 2012 was registered at Namchi Police Station on 25 June against an 18-year-old
boy, a resident of Chamarchi, Jalpaiguri [WB], currently residing in Namthang,
on charges of having sexually assaulted a 15 year old girl.
As per the FIR, the victim was reported missing from her home
at Kaluk on 22 June at around 3.30 pm. A thorough
search was conducted but she could not be traced out.
On 25 June, the victim's father
received information that his daughter was seen at Namthang. Accordingly, the
girl was recovered from Namthang with the accused. She disclosed to her mother
that she was sexually assaulted by the accused. The victim was medically
examined at Namchi District Hospital and then hand over to her legal guardian.
The accused has been sent to the Juvenile
Observation Home at Gangtok. The case is under investigation.
