GANGTOK, 24 June [IPR]: The second day of the Budget Session
2014 began with obituary references on the passing away of Til Bahadur Limboo,
former Member, Sikkim Legislative Assembly and Bhim Raj Rai, also a former MLA.
The Obituary Reference was read out by Speaker KN Rai.
The Leader of the House, Pawan Chamling, in his Obituary
Reference remembered the late Mr. Limboo, as an active social worker,
environmentalist and a politician committed to the cause of the people. Mr. Limboo
had served as a Member of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly from 1979 to 1984 and
was also Chairman of the Rajya Paryavaran Board.
Born on 18 January, 1937, Mr. Limboo hailed from Hee Gaon in
West Sikkim, and made a significant contribution in the fields of environment
and education. He was known for his commitment to the cause of Limboo language
and culture and had consistently raised his voice for the upliftment of the
Limboo community in the State.
The Chief Minister also made a mention of the ‘Save the
Forest campaign’ led by Mr. Limboo in Hee Bermiok in West Sikkim. The former
Legislator passed away on 12 March 2014.
On the passing away of Mr. Bhim Raj Rai, Mr. Chamling
remembered him as a political contemporary who was sincere and committed to the
cause of the poor and downtrodden.
Born on 31 December, 1935, Mr. Rai initially served the
Forest and Wildlife Department as a Range Officer and was later elevated to the
rank of Assistant Conservator of Forest. He subsequently resigned from
government job and joined politics. He was elected as a Member of Sikkim
Legislative Assembly from Jorethang constituency under the Sikkim Sangram
Parishad Party. He breathed his last on 03 June 2014 at Central Referral
Hospital.
