GANGTOK, 23 June: Power Minister DD Bhutia chaired a high level meeting with the Department of Horticulture, Cash Crops and Development Department officials on 21 June at Rabong [which he represents in the Legislative Assembly] where he directed them to focus on the State Government mission to transform Sikkim into an organic hub.
As per a press release, the Minister said that all the constituencies should have their own seed or seedling production units so that there is no need for imports. This may also help in controlling diseases in plants and saplings, he added.
Minister Bhutia also stressed on proper soil testing before taking on any pilot projects for implementing the agriculture or horticulture initiatives. He also urged the field officers to make for proper field visits in frequent intervals.
The Minister also welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appreciation of the Sikkim Organic Mission.
