GANGTOK, 26 June: The Department of Power and Energy yesterday admitted that nearly 33.67 percent electricity is lost to transmission & distribution loss. The department is taking serious note of the issue raised by SKM party president, PS Tamang, in the Assembly while discussing the Demands for Grants for power and Energy and Power Department on Thursday.
Mr. Tamang, quoting a national report on power transmission, had asked the state government about actions taken up by the government regarding the loss of power due to leakages.
In response, Power Minister DD Bhutia assured the House that the state government will examine the issue and also replace old transmitters. He further informed that the ruling party's decision to provide free electricity to rural houses of Sikkim will be implemented as soon as the modalities and process of scrutiny are completed.
The Demands for Grants under the charge of Power and Energy and Labour Department, Minister DD Bhutia, was passed by the house.
