GANGTOK, 23 June: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha MLA, Dr. Mechung Bhutia, has demanded that the Speaker allow live telecast of the proceedings of the budget session of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly which began today.
The MLA has demanded that the budget session be telecast live and has also sought “free access” to local media for extensive coverage of the budget session and all its proceedings.
In a press release, Dr. Bhutia has also contended that Section 144 of the CrPC, which disallows gatherings of more than five people among other restrictions, was unnecessarily being imposed around the State Legislative Assembly premises during the Assembly sessions by the state administration. He argues that section 144 should be imposed only in cases of impending danger or emergencies but it is being enforced without any valid reason here.
