Commercial Tax team goes green in Jorethang

GANGTOK, 25 June: The South/ West Circle Office of Commercial Tax Division, in alliance with the local bodies and corporate houses successfully organized a massive plantation, cleanliness and awareness program at the Durga Shakti Peeth Mandir in Jorethang today.
Officials and staff from the Commercial Tax Division, Irrigation Department and IPCA Laboratories Ltd also participated in the program, an official press release informs.
Various societies like Purwa Majhigaon Sudhar Samaj, Milan Sangh Samaj and Garib Uthan Sewa Samiti were present while members of the Art of Living also joined the program. Also present were ward panchayat Pema Tamang of Jorethang Nagar Panchayat, social activists Tika Gurung, Santosh Sharma and Kumari Majhi. M/s Graphix and Garg Enterprises also participated in the program.
At the start, Deputy Commissioner, CTD, Kamala Rai welcomed the participants and called on everyone to work whole heartedly in order to make the Paryavaran Mahotsav a grand success while Assistant Commissioner, Shailesh Rai explained the meaning and motive behind organizing such  a Mahotsav. Commercial tax inspector Usha Rani Pradhan read out the message for the occasion. Participants from various societies also addressed the gathering.
The plantation program began at 10:30 a.m. Different types of plants, fruits and flowers like Parijat, Mango, Litchi, Neem, Amala, Bouganvilla etc were planted in the temple compound.

As a part of awareness activity, the department distributed dustbins to different institutions and pasted “Go Green” stickers on the vehicles.
