GANGTOK, 20 Nov: The recently formed ‘Student’s Union of Sikkim’ convened a meeting today at the residence of one Anand Biswakarma, where it framed its prime agendas, informs a press release issued by its general secretary, Prem Dorjee Tamang.
The meeting discussed various aspects of the association with the attending students expressing satisfaction over the formation of such a body which they contended would provide a forum to address their grievances, the release states.
The president of the association, Jiwan Subba urged the members to put in extra effort so that the association would not experience any weakness in any aspect which are often seen in many other such associations.
The vice-president, Roman Nambiar, registering his commitment towards the welfare of the students expressed that the association will continue to serve the students in such a fashion that there would be no need to form another association.
The general secretary, Prem Dorjee Tamang on his part asserted that the association would not falter even if it has to approach the highest authority in matters concerning the welfare of students. The students actively participated in the open discussion regarding the problems being faced by students at present, the release informs.
The meeting further nominated Pankaj Rai as the assistant treasurer, Aviral Basnet (Namchi College) and Ugen Bhutia (Sikkim University) as the vice presidents, Khagendra Rai (Namchi College), Mahendra Prashad Gurung (SU) and Marina Rai (Law College) as joint secretaries, Jeremit Lepcha (Tadong Government College) and Yog Kr. Rai (Law College) as the co-ordinators.
The meeting concluded with the decision to meet on 11 Dec to work on the final framework of SUS, the release adds.
