ANUSHA GURUNGGANGTOK, 22 Nov: SIKITEX, the Information Technology Exhibition and Conference, is being organized on the theme “education and health technologies” this year by the Department of Information Technology on 24 and 25 November at Chintan Bhawan.
Secretary, KK Pradhan and Principal Director, Rajesh Verma of IT Department, addressing a press conference today, informed that a total of 50 stalls of different companies from across the country including participants from Hongkong and Nepal will be exhibiting their products. The event will also have three stalls from Sikkim.
This time SIKITEX 2011 has also incorporated a state-level consultation workshop on e-governance organized by the Ministry of Information Technology, Government of India, in association with NASSCOM. It was informed that for the first time, there is a special stall in the event on the use of IT for persons with disabilities.
This annual event is a premier IT exhibition and conference in the state organised by the IT Department to disseminate information on the technologies and trends in the IT sector. SIKITEX aims to provide a platform for companies to showcase and launch IT products, services and technologies to a wide but targeted audience.
SIKITEX-2011 will provide a unique opportunity for industry to pick a product/technology for commercial exploitation, for academic institutes to identify industry needs, experience sharing and interaction with experts and much more, it was informed.
The official delegations will focus on various issues, challenges and emerging technologies through the seminar and presentations. The conference includes topics of mobile governance, computerization of blood banks, Indian system of medicine and Homeopathy, e-health care service delivery and others include presentation based on education.
For this workshop, officials from the state government including the Panchayats, BDO’s, SDM’s are also participating, it was informed.
SIKITEX is scheduled to be inaugurated by the Chief Minsiter, Pawan Chamling. On the inaugural day the ‘SIKITEX IT Man of the Year’ award will also be conferred. In 2009, LP Sharma of NIC Gangtok and in 2010 TG Namgyal again of NIC Gangtok were conferred with this award.
This time, the state government has allowed all officers of the rank of Joint Secretary and equivalent and above to attend the inaugural event of SIKITEX and all government employees are also allowed to witness the event on 25 November from 2 pm onwards.
It was also informed that there are attractive prizes to be won in the gaming competition, fastest typist and on the spot quiz competition at the event.
