GANGTOK, 21 Nov: The third Public Information Campaign [PIC] for the year 2011-12 and the 17th in Sikkim thus far to generate awareness on the flagship programmes [Bharat Nirman] of the Government of India will be held at the Block Administrative Centre, Khamdong in East Sikkim from 23 to 25 November, informed CK Dorjee, Director, Press Information Bureau, Gangtok, today.
The programme, which was earlier scheduled from 21 to 23 September, was postponed due to the 18 September earthquake.
The PIC is scheduled to be inaugurated by area MLA and Parliamentary Secretary, Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department, Am Prasad Sharma, on 23 November, while the valedictory function will be presided by Secretary, Rural Management & Development Department, AK Ganeriwala on 25 November.
The campaign is being organised by PIB along with the Directorate of Field Publicity, Song and Drama Division, Kolkata, Doordarshan and All India Radio, Gangtok.
The PIC is aimed at creating awareness among the public directly through the seminars and infotainment. The three-day campaign will focus on various flagship programmes being implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development through the State Government, which include MGNREGA, PMGSY, NRWDP, etc., he informed and added that on 23 November, the resource person will talk on RTI, MGNREGA, PMGSY, ARWSP and capacity building.
The second day of PIC will focus on total sanitation, Rajeev Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna [RGGVY], National Rural Livelihood Mission [NRLM], Indira Awas Yojna [IAY], SSA and mid-day meal, incentive to girls for secondary education, AIDS - the role of students in its prevention and women empowerment.
On the third day, a healthy baby compteition will be organised by the Directorate of Field Publicity. The focus of the campaign on this day will be on welfare for persons with disabilities, Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girl [SABLA], Prime Minister’s new 15-point programme for the welfare of minorities, ICDS and NRHM.
Meanwhile, interactive sessions will be held during the PIC to enable participating public and media persons to interact directly with the resource persons and flagship implementing agencies with regard to implementation of such schemes.
The pre-publicity campaign was launched today by the Song and Drama Division, Kolkata and Directorate of Field Publicity [North Bengal & Sikkim region] in and around Khamdong with nine cultural troupes are participating.
