NAMCHI, 25 Nov: A coordination meeting on the financial implications of VDP (Village Development Programme) was convened on 24 Nov at Malidang in West Sikkim under the chairmanship of District Collector, West, Santa Pradhan by Ajambari Farmers Club, Malidang and Lakshya Organisation, Lower Kitam.
The meeting focused on the financial implications of VDP Phase II initiated by NABARD which is to be executed in convergence with the developmental schemes of the Department concerned and other developmental agencies.
DDM NABARD, JC Biswas highlighted in brief about NABARD and VDP while GM NABARD, PC Chaudhari explained the aspects, vision, strategy, goal and expected outcome of VDP within a span of 3 years. General Secretary of Lakshya Organisation, Roshan Kaushik briefed about the past experience in the implementation of VDP Phase I.
The plan, schemes and programmes of the various developmental agencies and department concerned were highlighted and verbally committed by the representatives of various departments such as free benefit of poultry farming, training for farmers on preparation of organic pesticides, renovation of low cost bamboo polyhouse, distribution of mustard and wheat seeds, computer literacy training programme, financing entrepreneurs for setting up small industrial units through PMEP, technology awareness programme, health awareness programme etc.
It was informed that the official procedure for construction of an approach road is almost completed and work will commence soon, as committed by the Chief Minister during his village-to-village tour.
It was also informed that a water supply scheme has also been sanctioned as committed by the CM and an irrigation canal is also sanctioned and the construction is in process. DC West, Mr Pradhan, urged the public to cooperate, participate and come forward voluntarily to make VDP a success.
He stressed that Government agencies alone cannot achieve a certain target without public participation and the public should also come forward positively to achieve the goal of village development.
The programme saw the participation of officials from various line departments, KVIC, NHB, DIC, Gram Panchayats etc. The VDP will be implemented by Ajambari FC Malidang and Lakshya organisation.
