NAMCHI, 21 Nov: Training on community awareness for Zilla Panchayats, School Management Committees and Working Committee members along with other stake holders was conducted here at the Community Centre by Sarva Siksha Abhiyan-Right To Education, HRDD South.
Since the programme was based on community awareness it was largely attended by Zilla Panchayats, members of various SMCs and working committees from different BACs under South District. Deputy Director SSA/HRDD South, Taramani Moktan in her welcome address informed that this training was being held to bring further reformation to the concept of RTE by actively involving other responsible bodies and individuals and to further add more meaning to the celebration of National Education Day which was held at the BAC and District Level in Namchi recently.
She added that it is also to generate awareness among the stake holders like panchayats, SMC members and so on in order to make them aware of their roles. The main focus of the training was the power point presentation by resource persons, DB Subba and Gyalsten Sherpa both of whom are AD, Headquarter, Gangtok.
In their presentation the resource persons informed about various aspects of RTE in detail and mentioned that the Right To Education is equivalent to Right To Life. They informed the participants that Sikkim is the first state to implement this RTE Act in comparison to other states of the country and also the first state to stress on Child Rights.
Mentioning that State Commission for Protection of Child Right is also a part of RTE, they also presented slide shows on community service related with RTE. In the meantime they also provided more information on RTE, its various provisions and advantages along with information on the grants provided for the development and management of schools and students.
Joint Director, HRDD South, Bimla Rai in her address highlighted the aims and objectives behind organizing this one day training on community awareness, and said that it is also the responsibility of the civil society along with other stake holders. She informed about various benefits provided under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and highlighted the problems faced by school heads and also assured of all possible help from the department.
At the same time she also informed about the Special Residential Training School and its functions under RTE. Chief guest, area MLA, Binod Rai, in his address urged the participants to consider the information imparted to them in a serious manner, and do their best in contributing towards the development of education.
Highlighting the work of the state government in the development of education system in the state he also expressed concern over the drop in the enrollment of students in government schools which he said should be a matter of concern for one and all. The training programme ended with the vote of thanks delivered by AEO HRDD South, Radhika Rai.
Other guests present were Chairman Namchi Municipal Council, BT Tamang as the special guest, along with Vice Chairman, NH Ansari and other council members.
