GANGTOK, 25 Nov: A contingent of paragliding pilots from the Sikkim Paragliding Adventure Sports Cooperative Society Ltd consisting of seven pilots including two women pilots left for Mizoram on 25 Nov to participate in the 1st Mizoram Paragliding Festival and Accuracy Spot Landing competition from 28-30 Nov, organized by Mizoram Tourism Department and 3Dimension Adventures.
A press release informs that the Society had been approached by representatives from Mizoram after learning that the Society was successful in establishing the sport in an organized and effective way in Sikkim and also for the technical and administrative assistance to establish this sport in their state as well.
The Society’s president, Arjun Kr Rai ( also the vice president, Paragliding Association of India, North zone) and pilot Tashi Lachungpa had visited Mizoram during Feb-March earlier this year for the purpose of extending assistance there.
Mr Arjun Rai has been appointed the meet director for the championship, who informed that besides the Sikkim contingent, teams from Bir/Billing, Pokhara and pilots from the Indian army are also participating in the event, the release informs.
Among the North Eastern states, the Mizoram government is taking keen interest in paragliding after seeing our government’s endeavor to establish the sport in the state succeed, the release adds.
